I went to get a wix filter of my 31 hp Briggs (still under warranty) and they suggested I use the longer version of the Wix (51348) which is half the price of the shorter one that replaces the Briggs. Just double checking with some of you that are more knowledgeable if using the longer Wix is OK and are there any negative reasons not to use it.

Briggs has 2 different filters for their gas engines, which are interchangable
differing only in overall length.

But your engine may be diesel/jap made, which is a different story.

Also the folks telling you this story might need questioning.......

Post your engine's model numbers next......

I'd recommend it myself, as long as you have the room.
All Briggs gas engines rhat I'm aware of have the same size filter threads/gasket etc.
BTW, Briggs has at least 3 sizes of filters.
2.3, 2.7 & 3.4" long
If you want to go longer yet, a WIx 51516 is 4.8" long and has the same specs.

wixfilters.com

WIX makes NAPA Gold and CarQuest Blue filters. (identical except for the paint job)
For a NAPA filter, use the last 4 digits of the Wix#
For a CarQuest filter, replace the first 2 digits of the Wix# with 85.
Example. Wix 51348 becomes CarQuest 85348 or NAPA Gold 1348.
