i had the same problem no idea why but i ran some seafoam deep creep through it and it ran fine... so im guessing maybe carbon buildup?

no it cant be this thing is brand new. I have had it for 2 weeks now and it has done it from day one. I never brought it to the dealer because I thought It was new and needed to get things working. but now its doing it alot more often. Another thing is when its at idle and i flip it over to edge it kills immeditally. and then when u start it, it starts revs and kills before you have a chance to give it gas. sometimes I am forced to hold down the trigger to be able to start it so it dosent kill on me. i jus tried to adjust the carb and it didnt help any.

what kind is it? my dealer fills, cranks, and runs every peice that he sells. if its been doing this since day one it should have been back at the dealer at day 2.

richen up the high needle on the carb. There's a picture on the guard near the carb that tells what needle is what. It's molded into the guard.

yeah thats what i was thinking. bring it to the dealer tomorrow, let em take a look at it and tell me what they think. cause do you know how long the warrenty is for stihl. I cant imagine it being anythin less than 90 days to 30 days. i wonder if their site could tell me. thanks for your help dude. my dealer does the same thing. fils em, and runs em. i didnt actually go and get it tho, my dad went and picked it up since he was out that way and had the credit card.

it says a 1 year warrenty. so i should be good. and they dont say anythin about removing the shield voids your warrenty so i should be good there too.

2 Year warranty, you probably need to adjust the L screw and or the LA screw. Give it a shot, it might save you a trip to the dealer.

There is a screen in new mufflers called a spark arrester which must be removed. Look at yours and see if it is clogged up. If you leave this screen in you will be maintaining it for the rest of your life.

HAHA yeah I know what your saying. I was thinking to myself about that while making the thread. But no honestly, echo just isnt what it used to be as I have been told and I had bad luck with mine. However, I will say, that my residental homeowner backpack blower pb265l or something, it did handle its load. And my trimmer did get used and it handled its duties when it worked good and I liked it. But when I had problems it was jus endless.

Had the same problem with one of my old Echo's I've been using at home. Used a fresh tank of mix instead of the one my wife mixed. Runs like new now.

If you don't know what you're doing take it to the dealer, otherwise it's probably a simple 1/4 turn or so of the idle stop screw, more than likely it's letting the rpm's fall a little too low. Very common problem, now I'm not saying you're doing it but if this is the kind of thing that's making folks talk trash about one brand vs. the other... :p

put it back on just to be safe. they do have a one year warranty. they've always been good about warranty stuff for me. they also have a 5yr warranty on certain engine components.

I have the same trimmer and had the same problem, its nothing major, first its the spark arrestor. what happens is it gets clogged and it doesnt take long ( mine started crapping out in the first day or so) just take care of that and you should be good. if not let us know i am sure theres a few other tricks but that would be the starter.

Make sure the filter is on the fuel line that is in the tank. It keeps the line weighted down and if it pops off it will cause erratic behavior because the fuel line will suck air.

Ok, i went today and brought it to the dealer. He never said anything about not havin the guard on there. He looked in the take, im sure checkin the fuel filter. and then he adjusted the lil knobs on the back.. he said that it was idelin so low that it was proab. killing due to not enough rpms. so now it runs real good, well it dosent kill. ill be able to really put it to the test on wednesday when i cut all my yards. and you can deff feel the difference and hear the difference in the torque(more power) and then at idel its a good solid idel it dosent sounds like its jumping around and about to kill every two seconds. glad i brought it to the dealer.

maybe gummed up the screen in the muffler.pretty common.required by somebody so you don't start forest fires or something?i usually take it out and throw it away since there aren't many forests to mow in the Sonoran desert.i think its called a spark arrester.

haha, no im not the best speller to begin with. thanks man, imma go pull that screen off right now. i just looked in the book to make sure i was looking at the right thing and how to take it out since its a new trimmer I dont want to mess it up. you can see where its all clogged, maybe this thing will run MUCH better now that the carb has been adjusted and the screen will be off.

i think taking the spark arrester screen out can void the warranty. might ought to check that out 1st. i take mine out, but only after the warranty is up.

Matthew, all you have to do is adjust the bottom screw on the unit. The mechanic at joes showed me a while back. I forgot which way but you should be able to hear the difference. It will let it run without shutting off. Don't turn it too far becuase the head will spin at idle and will be running too fast.
