It will even out after repair expenses over a few years. Besides, no one wants a Dodge.

Resale on Dodges is lower due to initial price being considerably lower. This is mainly due to their being almost entirely outsourced.
The new Dodges are fine trucks. The interior isnt as fancy as the other 2 big guys, but for a work truck, its great. I currently have an 06, tons of power, rides great, and by far the best looking 1500 class truck out. 18 MPGs on the highway empty and 15 MPG towing 3000 lbs all day. When I buy a new truck next year it will be a Dodge/Cummins. Also get a great 100K warranty on the new 1500s, so don't worry about repair cost.

when my dad was in business doing underground utilities in ohio he had eight dodge 3500 cummins.....
on his personal 3500 cummins he would pull the directional drill and gross over thirty thousand pounds and it would drive just fine.........
sure the resale is cheaper and price is cheaper but cummins gets more fuel milage out than anyother diesel on the market.....

I too was looking at a dodge; but a close friend of mine discouraged me. His dad is a hardcore mopar man, and he told me that the trans' in the trucks are crap. I thought that was an old problem, but he assured me that it is a current issue. To prove it he showed e the 3500$ bill for his 03 (i think) 2500 hemi whose trans went out at 65K. He does plow with it. He also told me of other individuals he knows that have had similar problems.
However, I do like dodges and i'm wondering if he just had a bad unit and he's making up other people to add credence to his point of view. Anyone else have tranny issues?

The tranny upgrades were made in 05 I believe. The diesel Dodges in Canada are really holding their value thanks to the Cummins power. You guys need to send me links to these cheap 05 3500 Laramie Dually 4X4, this truck is almost $40,000 up here (and our dollar is pretty close to par now). The early Dodge trannies were a week link in them.

Vehicals in the USA are considerably cheaper than here in Canada. What you guys pay for a brandnew Ford F-450 or F-550 is almost 10 grand cheaper.

Yep, and A.C. doesnt drop its mileage surprisingly. I went down to the jersey shore and got a consistent 21-22, but then dropped during regen. I was very impressed. This was with 6 people in the car too.

The 545rfe in the gas 2500's and 3500's is a little undersized in my opinion for that size truck. That trans is also used in the 1500 series trucks and is overbuilt for that application. We have one 1500 with the 4.7 auto and the trans is not the weak point of the truck.
They should have used the 48re in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks with gas engines---that trans was pretty stout even behind the cummins and would have been bulletproof behind the little hemi. The older trannies were more prone to failure although we have a '99 2500 cummins with over 140,000 on the original trans and it has seen some real abuse.

All diesel's are cheap at the moment because no one wants to pay the fuel. Dodge's hold there value though better then any other vehicle because of the Cummins. You can easily find 10 year old 2500 & 3500 Dodge's with 100k - 150k miles on them still going for 10 - 12 plus. Show me a Ford or Chevy thats 10 years old with that many miles that will sell for more than 10 - 12. The new Chevy's may have on par resale value as the Duramax has been a pretty good engine, but I highly doubt the Ford's do with their problem's with the 6.0. And Petr51488, I highly doubt your 08 is getting 21 - 22 on the highway, I would believe it if it was a pre-DPF Emissions model but its not. None of the new models will do that because of the DPF and regen's. As far as Dodge's transmissions go, yeah they could use a tighter TC but most of the problems people have with the auto's is they either bash the crap out of them or add ridiculous amounts of power to a non-upgraded transmission. Everyone see's the Allison as the creme of the crop of transmissions, yeah I wouldn't mind having one in my truck if I was going to keep it stock, but as far as simplicity and ability to hold 1000 hp if built properly, it stands no where near the 48re in the Dodge. The 48re and the 68rfe are very reliable transmissions with stock or slightly modified power. Even the older Dodge tran's like the 518 and the 47rh&e are good's trans, if you are sensible with them like any other piece of equipment.

Guess the thread i started a while back about satisfied Dodge truck owners has been forgotten already. i have towed this tractor/ trailer with a 02 Ford f-350 7.3L dually crew, and this tractor/trailer tore the Ford transmission up at 40,000 miles one season of use, then two cam position sensors, multiple HEUI fuel injector problems 3 sets of front brake rotors, and the 7.3L was a slug. The Cummins will suck the paint off any other diesel hauling this load, and ZERO problems with truck or engine. Dodge builds a fine work truck, maybe too "unrefined for the snooty Ford & chevy bunch, but I get a-lot of guys telling me they "wish" they had bought the Cummins, and their driving a Ford or Chevy.

wow alot of Dodge haters. We own a cummins and a powerstroke, and i will tell you the ford is one pussy of a truck, you have to rap out that ford to get it going with a decent size 5th wheel. The cummins will pull it just fine.
Reliablity? Cummins has 260k with everything original. Even has the 53 block everyone is worried about. Only thing i have done is a front end alignment about 2k miles ago.
MPG? Not great. I've gotten anywhere from 10-15 towing and 15-18 empty.

Tim, you got jacked on your truck. Back when diesel was cheap, I got a 2000 ford f350 dually with 90k on it for 9 grand and change in mint condition. Around here there are brand new trucks with signs that say "truck for cheap." I guess people are realizing trucks are for people who work! (or it could just be diesel prices, lol).
Anyway, back to the point, dude you got hosed. For 17k I could get something that is 2-3 years old w/ about 50k. I am considering a second truck (f250) and was looking around. They are for sale everywhere these days, you just have to pick and choose!

Would someone tell that to all of the people in Hawaii with their gas guzzler, V8 show trucks complete with A$$hole pipes to advertise to everyone how self centered and thoughless they are. Noise pollution and waste of fuel all in one shot. Most of these trucks are never used for work and there is never a speck of dirt on them at any time either. BTW, I have a Ram 3500 Cummiins, there's tools and supplies on the truck. Yes it is a little dirty, because it has been on the road all week, working.

I don't see how you figure that. I just looked on Kelley Blue Book and suggested retail on my truck is $12,000. I have owned it for over a year and put over 30,000 miles on it. When I was looking last summer you couldn't find a clean diesel Ford for under $20,000. Plus, I purchased an extended powertrain warranty and spray in bedliner which is figured into the 17,000 purchase price. Also I don't believe you can buy one 2-3 years old for 17,000. If you can, PLEASE let me know which idiot is selling it that cheap.

Oh, I see, you bought from a dealer. Buying from a dealer is like throwing away a few grand for no good reason. If you have some intelligence or can get a mechanic to look over a truck before purchase, there is no point in even going to a dealer. BTW, they will screw you just as bad and hide problems too.
Hell, the BB value on your truck can be 50k, but if noone will buy it at that price it wont mean anything. The bb on my truck was 16k when i got it.

Yea, I know some are scams but at the same time I have seen some in person that I thought were rediculously good deals including a box truck in same condition for 4k (wish I could use it). I dont dismiss anything as a scam unless I learn otherwise and obviously I am very careful.
