Someone I know has had an old Scag Belt drive (Like 2000 model). Its a 36" with 15hp I think. Its been sitting in storage, inside a building, for quite some time now. He used to do lawn work part time so Im not sure of the abuse or use it has on it nor does it have an hour meter. He says its not the original engine, a friend of his was a mechanic and rebuilt that one for free.
Sum it up: He wants $500.00 for it and he is stuck on that price. Would you venture into this if you needed a better mower? How reliable are scag dealers to readily carry parts for an almost 10 year old machine?

Also, he is not the original owner. A residential customer owned it and he noticed it on his back porch and ask. The man sold it to him for a good price.

i might would depending on the looks of the mower. i had scags at one point, and they're as tough as nails.

It is in pretty good condition and has a 2 wheel sulky or velky(whichever one). Does scag carry parts for machines that old?

i bought a 1985 toro t-bar 36 last year for 700, runs strong have not had one issue starts first time every time. its not so much the age of the machine that is important but the condition

Jump on it. yes scag makes parts still. I have a 1989 ransomes (bobcat) walk behind. If it didn't cut so damn nice, i wouldn't have kept it. But I still can get parts for it, so...

$500, buy it ! 2000 is not that old for a Walk-Behind provided it hasn't been used day in and day out. Scag has a good network of dealers, and lots of parts available online.

my friend has a scag with over 2500 hours on it and it was abused pretty badly by the previous owner. it is over 10 years old and still runs great and he used it to cut 30 lawns a week

It was actually sitting in that storage room as long as I have known the guys nephew which will be going on 4 years now. Its sounding like more and more of a better deal. I will contact the Scag dealer tomorrow to get specifics and the availability of parts. I think its a kohler engine?.?.? not sure though.

If the machine has been stored inside and not used much, I'd grab it. Parts should still be availible with little problem for the machine.
