Dying lawn boy

I just picked up an 04 Lawn Boy 44" deck hydrostatic, automatic for my house lawn mowed the yard then I stopped for a little while then went back to mowing & now every time I engage the blades it starts sputtering like it's running out of gas, plenty of gas. Is there some kinda safety switch that could be malfunctioning? Anyway if anybody could give me a heads up I would appreciate it.

Anyway if anybody could give me a heads up I would appreciate it. also the battery needed charged before it started sputtering could this have anything to do with whats going on
