I have to reinstall some dock lighting where one of the fixture covers popped off from boat fenders constantly bumping it.

Which has me wondering if anyone has tricked-out any docks and has some tips on fixtures and positioning.

I was using puck-style deck lights, hung vertically on the face. I did not want something which could be tripped over, or for rope to get hung up, so I kept the deck surface clear. I wonder now if I should change the fixture to the flush mount rectangular style. As long as I'm in the water, it won't be so bad mounting these.

ever consider putting them 4" down from the top and screwing a pressure treated 2x4 at the top. Boat will hit the 2x4 without touching the light.

I have some of the idea that you thinking about. I was wanting to light up the under side of the dock. I was thinking about some rope lighting around the top but under the dock. THought that maybe that would give the dock a little glow of light.
