OH YEAH! Quint 42 was one of the busiest truck companies in Firehouse Magazines Top 100 Busiest Truck Companies. KCMOFD(Kansas City Missouri Fire Department) and KCKFD(Kansas City Kansas Fire Department) Each had pumper and truck companies in the top 20. KCMO had the busiest Haz-Mat truck in the US. There are several houses in both depts. that avg. 2 to 3 workers a week!

o ok thats awesome.. I work at Station 6 on the engine we have one of the top 10 bussiest rescue trucks in the U.S and our engine is only in the top 30.. We get about 2 fires a week but the city itself had over 11,000 working structure fires last year.. So I know where your coming from on the fires.. Hey by the way how many yards is good for your first year cutting ???

since im a senior in HS i knew most of the guys that were going off to college and they mowed lawns. I told them i would take over their operation for them. Thats the best way i think. Its the easiest and quickest way. Flyers are nice but you may pass out 300 and only get 5 out of that. I look for guys that are getting out of the business and try to persuade them on giving me their lawns.

hey man going career is good I made the jump from volunteer to career about 2 years ago. I love it so far you get a lot more fire and call volume and plus the benefits are great and you still have plenty of time to keep your bussiness running smooth. We have 32 stations in Birmingham. We had 60,000 calls last year and approximately 12,000 working fires , my station alone averages 3 to 5 working fires a week.. Make the jump I promise you want regret it..

I agree, I started with a volunteer dept. in 2000 when I was 19, did that for three years while getting my EMT and FF certifications. Once I had those I was fortunate enough to be hired by a career dept. I have now been career for five years and love it.

We are a combined Fire/EMS dept., and I am now about half way through paramedic school (all paid for by the dept.)

Not only are there good benefits, the schedule is great. I work a 24/48 shift and it allows me time to run a small lawn care bus. as well as school (busier than I want to be though.)

One of our local college's offers an accelerated FF 1 and 11 class. It is every day all day long for two weeks. I think its like 12 hrs a day (can't remember its been like 8 years ago since I did it.) It does beat the hell out of a semester long class, I live about an hour from where its offered and we have people from all over like KCfireman come to it.

Anything thats shorter than 18 weeks i will look into. Right now Hutch has academies in June, August and i think October. I'll probably enter the june one. For some reason they require a CPR card when you enter.?

that is fast. but imo i want to retain all i get. at this rate it would be hard to retain all the info, and i would want all i can get out of the class. my @$$ could be on the line b/c of it. by the way, are you speaking of mod 1 and 2 or FF 1 and 2?

I honestly dont think KS has that here. Every dept. in the state has a minimum requirement of FF I and your EMT-B.
