Do the scags cut better than that wright stander? I am courious about that because, I was considering switching from scag walkbehind to wright stander.

The reason the deck looks bigger is because it has the Velocity deck, it is significantly bigger than any other deck, thats why they cut so well.. Ive never clumped with my Pro-V or my SWZ both with the Velocity.. Now the Advantage, i have it also on my SW and it clumps all the time. Very big difference with the two decks. And also the chute on the Velocity is about two times the size.

They cut better than my older scag with the advantage deck but the new velocity has a better cut than the stander...But still the stander does leave a nice cut....I Will be buying a 61"ZK later on.

Duramax, how do you like adjusting the height on your fixed decks? Since all your mowers are fixed. Or do you just cut on one or two different heights? Just curious.

Surprisingly, visibility isnt really an issue for me. The setup has been extremely efficient for the properties I service, many being city lots and small residentals. I only use the Trac Vac for spring and fall cleanups, the remainder of the season I remove the unit and use a grass gobbler side catcher. It works well because I am able to disconnect the sunction hose from the deck boot and use it to vacuum piles from areas that would be inaccessible by a truck with leaf loader. I simply move the leaves infront of the loader hose and it shreds them into the barrels, then I carry it out to the truck. Overall, I have been very pleased with this set up. It allows me the ability to have a debris loader that isn't limited by where a truck can reach.

The mower is a 2005 Scag SWZU, 48" velocity deck powered by a 17.0 hp Kawasaki motor. The unit has approximately 280 hours. The Trac Vac unit is also a 2005 model TV 470 powered by a 5.5 Honda GX160 engine. I do not have a current picture of it with the side catcher, but I do have more pictures of the unit and an operator view. Enjoy!

Right around $8,020.

10-02-2008, 09:55 AM
JonM, Did you purchase the vac and mower together? $8,000 seems a little much for a vac system like that.

JonM
10-02-2008, 11:10 AM
The $8,020 is for the trac vac, mower, and and a single wheeled velke. The mower was $5920, trac vac w/ model specific hardware was $1810, and the velke was $290. Sorry for any confusion, I should have specified.

get used to that tthp and you wont want to touch that scag. now that i have a few guns pulled and pointed my way, let me explain my position. i had 2scag belt drive wb mowers w/ 48" decks. the mowers were built like tanks, and left a great cut. i could not tear up the scag wb's. however, get used to the ECS controls on that tthp and you wont want to go back to pistols. my wrists used to KILL me after using pistols, now i can run the tthp all week and never feel a thing. now i know all of yall are going to say the only reason is b/c the tthp is hydro, yes it is, but it came w/ pistol grips and i bought the kit to upgrade it to ECS. not to mention the fact that i installed the new controls by myself and have yet to get the linkage right, so it operates just like a belt drive.

Nice Turf Tiger. I've been wanting one of those to replace my Scag. Are they worth it because I was between that and a Ferris, possible a Stander but those cant have Trac Vac.

SIWEL
10-05-2008, 10:09 AM
the turf tigers are worth it hands down i think. they are the strongest built and the easiest to work on. the deck is driveshaft driven, but make sure you check the oil in the gear box regually. the hydro pumps are easily accessable along with all the belts. they are a comfortable ride and i wouldn't buy any other machine at this point. i am in the process of setting up my clamshell vac for my turf tiger (the high back seat one) for leaves, it should work very well. the walk behind is fairly old, not sure about the exact year, but i bought it for just about a grand with a brand new motor, a grass gobbler, and a velky, so it was more then worth it as far as i was concerened.

Scag413
10-05-2008, 03:33 PM
a turbo baffle makes the discharge opening on the deck smaller keeping the grass under the deck a little longer cutting it up better and then it actually will shoot the grass out further than a deck without the baffle. some of these other guys prlly explain it better. I am sure you can get it from a local scag dealer

Heads up---the new ones are no longer as easy to work on. It may be since they lowered the seat height but our '07 cannot compare to our '01. Even oil changes are a pain in the neck unless you use an extractor. The new one is still a well built machine but if I had to choose one over the other to keep running for the next 5000 hrs I'd take the '01 hands down.

Yes, they make the turbo baffle for the classic decks. I bought one for my 48".

Have you played around with the different possible setups for your desired height of cut?

If your having blowout, take a spacer out between the spindle and the blade and put it on top. Are you using genuine SCAG blades? Engine RPM up around 3650 while mowing?
