Tow behind aerator to prep 30,000 sq ft renovation?

I'm doing a 30,000 sq ft Galaxy KBG renovation in August. I'll be killing the lawn with Roundup. I was planning on using a tow behind aerator and tow behind overseeder. My concern is that my soil is too compacted and the aerator will not penetrate the ground. The aerator I was going to rent is the kind with the containers of water that you fill to add weight. I estimate the total weight with water to be between 200-300 lbs. It is a core aerator not a spike aerator.
Has anyone used this kind of aerator and do they work well?

Also, my sand mound will be in part of the renovation. Is it ok to run an aerator over a sand mound?
