I have heard rumors that Dex-Cool isn't all its talked up to be. I hear that there are issues with gasket hardening and weakening along with corrosion to hoses and clamps.

A buddy just went in and found all the hoses on his truck were shor and the mechanic said because the long change interval allows crystallization and impurities to stay circulating.

He changed the pink to the green and said to flush it every 2 years.

Anyone have problems or confirm the rumors. Any service bulletins out from the major manufacturers?

Just curious.

I have heard stories of the corrosive nature of dex-cool. My brother, a master ase mechanic, would strongly recommend removing it from the system and switching to plain ol green stuff, (which he did to my dads then-new 97 van the day he brought it home) says the every two year flush is less headache than the problems dex cool can cause by 50k.

Dex-cool works as advertised, with one exception. If you let your coolant system get low then you will have problems. If you have a coolant system that leaks or overheats then don't use Dex-cool. In short, don't put Dex-cool in a junker.
