Any reports on performance/economy on the 31 Kawi or the Shibaura yet? May be replacing a 30/66, and looking for a little more snort. I know you dont get power and economy, but Im not getting enough of either with the 30.

I havent heard actual #'s, but I have heard that the guys that can get their hands on these 2 new models are loving them.
With them only being out couple months, its only a matter of time before we start getting the comments and gph posted here.

We have sold both and the guys love them. The 31 Kawi is a power house, But ofcourse not as good on fuel as the Diesel.

But from the short time ive had the D's in here they are amazing machines.
Smoothest Diesel ive ever ran.

Pj,
Other than the engine and different pumps, whats the difference between the SZ and the diesel? Sorry if its been asked before!

Will Hustler be coming out with a higher hp efi engine eg 31hp or so?

I dont understand why they havent yet other than know one making it. I mean, everyone including myself loves the 28efi but we just ask for a little more hp to run the larger pumps on the SZ. Been saying it for years!

There are many differences in the Hustler Z diesel compared to the std Super Z.
They share the same pumps, just mounted tandem in the diesel model.
We use axial piston wheel motors in the diesel Z also.
Everything is mounted different do to the engine being a horizontal shaft, we use a mule drive also compared to the std Super Z / Hustler Z.
There are new engines always being tested and evaluated for use in our mowers, what they are and when they will be available, I cant say, but I can assure you we are always working on something with more hp and newer engine options.

I havent got actual numbers yet. (dont have a meter on my overhead gas tank) But the 31's use close to twice what the efis use. Hate to think what the 40 kohler will drink. The 31 has alot of valve train noise compared to the 28efi.

I would just love to see a low to mid 30s HP EFI engine. The 28 koh efi is great on our SZ 60 inch, I would just like to have a little more for the 66s. I think our 28 efi runs the super z better than the 30 koh on the other two mowers we have.

Had a look at the new diesel hustler prototype today! Looks a great machine! Engine sounds awesome. Well layed out motors, belts etc!
Will get a demo around xmas when the grass is normal growth.
Also had a look at the new Out front! WOW! It wouldnt be much if any longer than a grasshopper or Walker and its got 4wd, diff lock etc. Might get a demo of that too I think!

Was told there are/have been a few changes from the original like molded hood, slight belt change or something. Nothing major, just a few little things.
Are the ones your selling the same as in this pic?

You heard correct, when we shipped those test units to Australia we didn't have the final hoods and a few other minor details done yet.
The ones we sell look identical to whats in your pic.

Thanks Pj. While I like the idea of a metal hood for obvious reasons, Im sure there would be extra weight in it. Looks same kind of steel used in the deck covers if Im not mistaken.
Would of liked to of seen 26" tires on there for the extra 200kg's of so.
I really like the look of that machine though but I really would just like a larger efi engine than the 28!
While I like kicking tires, it gets frustrating!
I'll keep pushing for it!

The hood is a lightweight injection molded plastic, it is real nice and real sturdy, it works well.
As to the larger tires, that was discussed, but this particular diesel unit was designed to be as compact as possible for its class.

I can understand making it compact but in the end, I dont think it would of changed he dimensions much if any. I dont think there wider are they? Just a bigger circumference????
Its done now but 200kgs is a lot of weight on the same tires I have now, and I get ruts already in my clay type soils!
I would of liked the actual frame to be a little shorter (that goes for the SZ'z as well.) I mean, making the frame longer so people can fit a roller seems ridiculous to me. The distance between the front casters and drive wheels dictates how much scalping will happen on undulating lawns and makes the machine less compact! Should of just stayed with the short wheel base of the older machines. I know you will say needed the extra length for the new deck but making the whole machine longer so a few people can fit a roller just, sucks! for want of a better word! The compactness 'v' engine is what made the older SZ so great!

anyway, sorry for the long winded post! Im very hung over and trying to stay out of the wifes sights! She aint happy for some reason! lol

I hear ya Mick!

26" rears and 15" fronts would be REAL nice. They would fit fine on mine.

And a 800-1000cc EFI V-twin is definately needed. I'm happy as can be with my 28EFI until those pumps give it more than it can handle.

Hustler, keep them short, and lightweight. Give us bigger (rounder) tires, and an engine capable of keeping up with the big pumps (or engineer a pump/motor combo capable of 15mph speeds and able to climb a hill.
