i'm looking at a 16' tandem axle trailer. it has brakes on at least one axle. i'm just afraid it might be too much trailer for my vehicle. i've got a 98 explorer 4.0 liter v6. i'll just be pulling two walkbehinds--no ztrs. will this trailer put too much stress on the engine or tranny? any advice or opinions are appreciated.

It could be just make sure you have a good braking module in the Explorer.

How much does the trailer weigh empty? Add up the maximum amount of weight you will be putting on that trailer and add the trailer empty weight, if you are anywhere near the manufacturer's towing weight for a '98 Ford Explorer, you are screwed.

Did you know that U-haul won't even rent a trailer to an Explorer owner. What does that tell you?

Explorer probably too small. Check the owners manuel of the truck to see how much it can tow & compare it to the weight of what you will be towing. My ford F150 XL with a 6 cylinder engine could only tow a total of 5000 lbs.

That U-Haul is still trembling from all those Explorers with the bad tires that flipped over!
