hi guys,
i have an exmark lazer z hp 23hp engine 2004 with around 250 hours on it.

recently it started acting up when i was going along or mowing the engine would cut off for a second then kick back on so i'm figuring its something with the seat switch or the parking brake switch underneath. i also noticed when i start it and take the parking brake off alot of times it would start to die and i'd have to pick up and put the parking brake down to get it to run. i checked all the connections they are fine. also sometimes i'll be running and just move the arms from forward to reverse and it will kick off for a second or start to die or die totally so i'm leaning towards the parking brake sensor in the middle of the machine being worn out and moving around anyone heard of this??? whats your take???

thanks!

I have the same mower but different year. It could be one of many possible problems, but don't forget to check your coils. If your plugs are fouled badly and weren't the last time you looked at them, your coils might be working only intermittently. It happened to mine recently, and the dealer indicated it's been a persistent problem with that engine, so the coils I bought are supposedly and upgrade from the factory-installed ones. I changed the plugs too, of course, and now it seems to be ok. My problems, in addition to what you described, was that the engine would bog down under a load such as tall, wet grass or a hill, or both. My Exmark is out of warranty, so neither Exmark or Kawasaki would stand behind their respective product, and I had to foot the bill myself. Not a big deal, but it seemed to me that since the mower has only about 150 hours on it, they might have felt responsible. But they didn't.

with out the serial # its hard to tell ya what to do but it sounds like the seat delay switch to me or it could be the seat switch. jump the seat switch and see if that helps if it helps get ya a new one DO NOT mow like this!

Hi,

I mowed with an exmark, actually 2, made in 2004 and 2005. Both of them had a bad safety switch after 2 years. Easy to change.

Good luck

check the vent holes in the tops of your gas caps..might be clogged, this causes a closed seal not allowing fuel to flow through the lines
