Here's why I install a softy on every head..took the UPS truck hit. Body &
nozzle made it, as did the swing joint.

Marlex has changed ~ the soft fittings got harder, and thinner-walled.

waste of money and time...save your finger strokes for something that matters.

I'm sorry... i usually try to just read unless I have work I'm avoiding...

what did this really save you?

didn't it still leak? didn't you still have to dig it up?

What a marlex ell (as part of a swing joint) saves you is cracks or breaks in the PVC that it's attached to. Might be less important when you use poly that I suspect might flex anyway.

I use a swing joint w/ marlex 90s at every turf head. Besides protection from reckless mowing, rive-overs, it also allows easier height and angle adjustments.

Cutoff nipples and sch 80 nipples can break when the mower wheels yank the heads around. Marlex doesn't break under those forces. Marlex installers will lose track of where the nipple-extracting wrench has gotten to, because they don't need one for their service work.

..and I meant to write "drive-over". And if you're using CL200 or thinner PVC then all bets are off (as far as drive-over pipe damage goes.)

I use RB swing-joints on all rotors for same reasons Greg lists. Can't remember last repair on one from impact.
