~35-40 horse, smaller will do, but you'll be all day.

35 - 40 for up to 6' mower
50 - 60 for an 8'mower
Buy all the HP you can afford, because you will always want more later on.:)

I would continue to sub it out unless you have enough work to keep the tractor busy full time. Initial investment will take along time to recoup if the tractor is used sparingly

Hogging is one of the hardest things on a tractor,we have a 32hp ford, and a 5 ft hog,its enough power, but its just to slow going,If i could buy another it would have at least 45hp.The radiator screens plug constantly, your always hitting things you cant see,flats,etc...The problem with the compact tractors is they dont have the HP to do the job if time is money,They will do it,but not fast enough to make it worth your time.I get frustrated when i hog my back field,6 acres takes my about 8 hours.

It might not hurt looking into a DR Brushmower @ www.countryhomeproducts.com they are about 2k and I know of people that have put sulkies on them and they will do around a acre a hour~ NaTe
kinda think u might come out cheaper to find a retired farmer etc.
sometimes theyll work very reasonable ,for the promise of all your work. plus it gives them something to do with there equipment and a little extra spending.later now
i know farmers never retire, but u know what i mean.
we have been renting a tractor and 15' batwing last 2 years when we needed it and worked great, now they took it out of the rental fleet, so were looking for a 80 or 90 hp tractor and batwing now.
