Hello all. I am a consumer (not a pro) who wanted the best in walk-behind mowers. In 1999, I bought a JD JX75. It has been great, but recently I hit a rock and it bent the blade shaft. I think I will replace the motor, as the original has lots of hours on it. Has anyone replaced the Kawasaki FC150V engine with one available from a non-JD source? A small engine supplier online has one for about half of what Deere wants for the JD spec replacement. The small engine supplier offers the FC150V-S11, which is a pressurized oil version, similar to the OEM motor. The mounting holes are the same, but the S11 spec shaft size is 7/8", and it seems that the JD part is closer to 15/16" (via a tape measure).

Anyone here have any experience replacing their Deere engine? What about the FJ180V engine?

Thanks very much in advance.

Never replaced any engines on my Deere mowers but I have had a bent shaft straightened. Many small mower repair shops have a shaft straightener. It cost me $40 versus a new engine.

I would borrow a caliper to check the exact size of your s11 spec shaft, then you would have a better idea what you are looking at.

why not just change the crankshaft?

don't get an fj engine unless you like changing head gaskets.

straightening a crankshaft is not a good idea. if it breaks in use and somebody gets hurt/killed, you just lost your business.

the joys of todays "it's not my fault, let's sue" society.
