Ok, this may sound like a stupid question but it has me curious.

Im turning 16 and I have my truck already. Its a 1997 Ford F-150 4x4 with a 5spd. It is pushing 186,000mi. The only good thing is that i knew the owner and he only ran it on the highway running from Ohio to Florida. What should I expect to get out of this truck miles wise. I would like to put a plow and stuff on it but should i be worried about dropping that kind of money in the truck with this high of miles. It needs to last me at least 4 years.

I would seriously rethink the plow idea if it needs to last you 4 years. JMO

If it has the 4.6 in it, you should get over 200,00 with no problem. I don't think you will get 4 years out of it unless you only drive it to church on sundays though. Just my .02

YOu will get some good miles out of it. If it quits early re ring it and drive some more. the 4.6 is a good motor. I wouldn't plow with it. its a landscape trailer truck. good luck.

i think it's probably a 4.9L inline right? or did they stop making those before 97? idk, my dad had the same truck minus 4x4 and with a new clutch, waterpump, and oil change every so often it lasted him 380,000mi before he decided to get his current truck..(99 F350 7.3L) but yeah, he was contracting back then and just hauled minor equipment back and forth throughout new jersey... he said he would still be running right now if he had it... but yeah like the first guy said... rethink the plowing idea if your trying to squeeze optimum life expect out of it

no its a 4.6 v8. 4.9 was done in 96, along with the bodystyle

ill probably not plow with it and just run it pulling my trailer.

i really think they shoulda kept the 300. It was a great great engine!! and pulled like a beast. thats what ford needs to do, bring back that inline 6. that would really help them now.
