Have a Ferris IS2000.. The right side hydro pump/wheel motor is acting up.
When I stop and try to go backwards, it hesatates...feels like the wheel is spinning but it's not..How do you tell which is going bad????????
The hydro tank is full, and I changed the fluid/filter last summer. Only started having a prob last week.............:usflag:

Manual said to jack up rear and run it for a few min to get air out of system, and fill after air is purged. I have over 150 hrs since the the filter change with no problems, so I dont think air is the problem...........:usflag:

Does it not have the oval shaped cap on the pump with two bolts? Crack the two bolts 1.5 turns and lift the cap and crank it back down quickly, do this for both. Try it, let us know the results.

I didnt see any cap....The pump has the cooling fan mounted on the top, so It may be under there...
I did notice however that the steering dampiner(not sure whats it called) is bad...could that be causing the the delay in the right wheel??.....:usflag:

that could be too, but there has to be a way to bleed the air.

Air in the system? Na... you would only loosen the charge pump bolts to insure juice is getting to the pump, like after a filter change... not a YEAR after a filter change! But I digress....
Without a proper flow test, one way to get an idea if the wheel motor is heading south would be to jack the unit up and try to spin the wheel by hand.It should have a lot of resistance. If it does, then the pump might be shot, the problem is that a torn up pump will usually dump a bunch of crap into the wheel motor.

Took it in to the dealer today...Did a flow test, and pump is fine, so its the wheel motor. Said they will cover the part, but the labor is on me..Its a little over a month out of warranty. :usflag:

It may be something as simple as this . Check the pressure release valve on the pump. This happened to me one time and I thought the pump or wheel motor was going out. After tightening it the problem was over.

So, can mower dealers bench check wheel motors and pumps? I have mine off my SCAG burnout and would like to check them before I try to sell them on ebay...(see my sig line for pictures)

Not sure...Had to run the machine to do the flow test.. I'd be a little hesitent to buy pumps/wheel motors from a machine that was in a fire. Would think the heat may damage or shorten there life...

Yep, I guess it depends on risk/reward. Commercially maybe not such a good idea but if a non critical application needs one it might be a cheap way to get things running again.
There's got to be a place that could bench check them to ensure they meet spec. With only 60 hours on them they were pretty new units.
