I have heard some chatter from my Peerless transmission 700-070 and after inspection I have notice that the lower drive pulley is moving around. The transmission shifts fine and all gears work but I think my input bearings are shot.

Can I fix this myself with be replacing the bearings or should I just swap the thing out?

I have no experience with these transmissions except from what I have read on this site.

Any information, part numbers, or repair guides are appreciated.

Thanks, Matt

If you have any mechanical ability at all then by all means fix it and dont waint very long, a wait cost me a new tranny as it trashed the input gears at the end of that shaft. Im pretty sure thats the same number I just bought for my Exmark. Tranny is about $200 plus freight bearing is surely cheaper. J Thomas has parts and trannys. and a parts breakdown that would make reassembly a lot easier.

Here is a link to a service manual... It's not a hard job, just dirty. Snap ring pliers are a must have tool

This only applies to repair jobs involving the actual removal of the old transmission, meaning issues to do with the shaft going to the pulley.

Due to the complexity of this repair involving TWO jobs:
1. Replacing the actual transmission(s) itself takes HOURS.
2. Rebuilding any part within is about as much fun.

If you have the money I would order a new one and replace it whole, but DO get the parts for the old one then when you get a chance rebuild that and you have a spare transmission, how I do it.
For stuff to do in winter :p
