I have a Kawasaki 21 hp on a 52" Scag walkbehind that won't keep a charge . I can jump it but it will not let the blades engage.Any info would be much welcome. Thank you.

umm a new batt. is $19.99. try that. as far as the blades go if the mower is running it dosent sound like batt. is the prob. more likely a safty feature is tripped.

It could also be a clutch problem. Have you checked your fuses?

It may be the battery, but I would think it is more likely the regulator or the fuse in line with that circuit. I am more familiar with kohler, but I am sure the charging system design is close. If you have a volt meter measure the battery while it is running at near full speed. If it is charging you should have roughly 13.5 volts. My guess is you won't. As far as the thing dying when you engage the PTO, that is an indication of not charging as well. The PTO takes a lot of current to run, so if there isn't much there to start with the PTO takes what little there is that the motor was running off of causing it to quit.

Check the FUSE HOLDER even if the fuse is good. Our '04 TT had a POOR contact where the fuse slid into the fuse holder, put on a new VR but probably didn't need it. :usflag:

Thanks for the responses. Cleaned all terminals and harnesses , still no results. Will try the fuse holders next.
