I have a 25 Kohler on an Exmark 2002 and it has a blown head gasket. It still runs but it makes a loud blow by noise but still running. I can see the head move slightly and see the leakage. I heard it was a bad head bolt issue. I am going to replace the gaskets obviously but I heard the head bolts were a problem. Anything I should know?
thanks

The only way you can buy a Kohler head gasket now is in a kit. it comes with intake, exhaust, and new head bolts or studs. Cost is about $18.00.

I just did a head gasket on my 25 Kohler. Its a pretty easy job, just make sure you replace the head bolts if their bolts. Some of them do use studs, mine did, so I didn't have to replace the bolts. The kit comes with new studs and new bolts. Also, MAKE SURE you buy new dowels/retainers for the head. They are used to line the head back up to the block when you put it back on so a valve doesnt hit the cylinder wall. Those have to be purchased seperatley from the kit. Also pay very close attention to the tourque specs. I believe they were 300 INCH pounds. Read the directions with the kit very thouroghly though. Good luck..any more questions just P.M. me.

I usually buy from J-Thomas. Where is the best place to purchase the set?

your kohler dealer should have it in stock.
