Any body ever been tempted to, or ever actually, take a 60" walk behind deck and take out one blade and get it re-welded up as a 40"? I know Toro/Exmark make a 40", but if I happened to find a used 60" (actually that is big for a walk behind and probably not many on the used market) but I just wondered.
Or suppose I found one of those 42" Husquvarna walk behinds with the single handle height controls and wanted to cut out the 5" of totally unnecessary length between the rear wheels and deck, would that be insane or possibly doable?

why would you want to? why not just buy the deck size you need instead of modifying it to "make it fit"

No :) But I have a customer that had me take a 48 Lesco deck off his WB and replace it with a 32 inch deck. You could buy just the shell and swap everything over and still have a spare spindle ;)
