Could anybody tell me what this type of grass is? Any help would be appreciated

I believe that is zoysia grass. Is it newly planted or growing in the shade? I normally see zoysia form a much thicker sod. Especially if it is cut at 1 inch or less with a reel mower.

Yes it is in the shade most of the day, it is up against the house and under a tree. Also I don't mow it that low(the heat in south texas) and so it matches with the rest of the yard (which is bermuda).

I've looked at a couple of different websites to try and identify it, I just cant seem to narrow it down. I might have to track down the old owner and see what he planted.

It looks like a thin Emerald Green Zoysia, I have Emerald myself.

looks like empire to me. maybe a little thirsty since there's a little roll to the blade. can you take a pic of the whole back yard? Any bad spots? I'm no grass pro but i can always tell a zoysia yard by the bad spots. It seems they all have similar issues here.
