So, A homeowner is trying to sell her mothers old property. It had major water issue and the foundation was redone on one side. Needless to say it's a flip type of situation.

They want me to lay sod. The foundation guys did an awesome job of grading and keeping good black soil on top. No clods, crap, ect, hardly any prep is going to be involved.

Details, and my estimate,

4800 square feet of sod- 1700.............my cost- 1080
6 yards of mulch- ...........350.........................-225
6 plants/shrubs- .............325.........................-270
Fertilizer - ......................45..........................-15
Labor-......................... 1100.............-Price of Food and sanity in the heat :laugh:

Total-...........................3520........................-1590

This is the first reasonable sod job I've done. They've always been 2 pallets or less. So, what do you guys think ??

Using YOUR material costs provided, I would charge $4,799.

Up around Seattle area I would charge $6500-$7000 with a 3 man crew, and finish in a day.
$6500 - $1590 = $4910

I would have to say that I would not lay sod for any less than $1.5 - $2 a sq. ft.

I would be at $3975.00 if the prep work is as little as you say it is.

The more and more I was thinking about it, I was thinking the job should come in around 4200 or so.

Some of the material and plant costs were ballparks. I think I can use 4 yards of mulch instead of 6, and the plant pricing was for higher end of 6 plants.

Thanks guys, I did feel a little low and thanks for confirming that.

I would say you are not too far off from what I would charge. I sell all materials at retail then add my labor charge +10% for delivery, fuel and so on.

My problem is that most of my customers know how to go price plants, materials, ect. I make sure to put Astrix in my quotes to show that shipping and handling has been included.

I only get 15- 25 percent discount on my plants, but I don't want to charge so high that people are going to bad-mouth my practices. So charging whole-sale to retail isn't quite feasible when I'm not getting exactly wholesale prices to begin with. Besides, They companies I by from cover the warranties so I don't have to. :laugh:

I did get the quote up to 4300. I think it's reasonable, I'll make a good profit on the job and so on. I would probably try to go closer to 5000 if I lived closer to Chicago where cost of living is higher.

Thanks again for the help, I was kinda sketchy on listing prices in a public forum, hope it wasn't a big deal.
