I need a new trimmer, and I'm considering the T3410 or maybe the T2501.

My local dealer keeps one of the T3410s in stock, but they no longer stock the T2510. I have the EB3410 blower and it has been trouble free. How are these engines in a string trimmer application? I have the T231 and it has also been trouble free, but it is a bit low on power.

Input from actual owners of these two trimmers is appreciated.

i'm in the same situation as you. except a really need to buy a new one tomorrow morning. my two oldies took a sh*t wednesday afternoon, so i had to use my only other trimmer, and at times its not so reliable.

I love my T231 but it is low on power as you said.
I am lookin at the FS100 and the T242.
I am leanin more towards the shindaiwa due to never using stihl products except once, and the blower was the biggest piece of junk i have ever attempted to use, and all of my other shindaiwa's have been great. I am still a little bit cautious to get into the C4 technology of shindaiwa though due to hearing some bad stuff through friends that also have used their products.

What bad things have you heard about the C4s? My EB3410 has been very relaible, starts quickly and the exhaust note is less irritating to me than the typical 2 stroke.

My biggest concern is that the C4s don't seem to be selling well.

i have heard that dont have the power that the eb600's have. i am not going to say they dont becuase i myself have never run one.
People have told me shindaiwa has lost a lot of power due to having to comply with EPA regulations.
I need somethin light weight, starts good, and is reliable! haha. but i may look into the C4's after reading on here about them.

I also have an opportunity to buy a new T270, if the C4 trimmers are a problem.

I bought 2 a few months ago. You can still find them :)

How do you like the T270?

LOVE them. Its a tab bit overkill IMO, but thats how I like things. Hell I got a Z71 that used to outrun vettes in the 1/4 mile. Occasionally it doubles as my tow vehicle :weightlifter:

Well, I've had them both. If you can still get a new T270 get it since it will likely no longer be available anymore. Both work really well in moving the mass of the large Speed feed head. The C4 technology is super sound, and stone reliable IMHO.

However, the T3410 is a little bit heavier but seems to have more power at a lower RPM range. That's really nice if you like the "feather" the throttle. Also with the C4, the fuel economy IS better. Getting over the way it sounds can take some getting used to though... The T3410 will soundly put away anything you throw at it. It's a beast. BTW, you might also want to take a look at the Kawasaki KGT27 or KBL27. They're real light and powerful !

I also used both. Liked the 270 just a bit better. Lighter and no maintenance hassles. But the 4-stroke has it's ups as well, a nice tone and goes for 1 1/4 hrs on a fuel tank. Shin has changed to a full metal clutch after problems on the 270.

On it's 3rd season now, so far so good, we'll see how it does.
