I have a customer who wants me to turn their overgrown garden into lawn. The area is pretty large (about 5000 sg ft). This used to be a full on garden that is totally overgrown. Any opinions on how to tackle this job. This is what I'm thinking:
1. Cut down everything (Any Suggestions on how???)
2. Clean out all brush
2. til the entire area
4. Plant Grass (Any recommendations for soil prep??)

This is going to be an end of summer project, so I have some time. Just looking for suggestions as this is kind of an odd job for me.

Here is what I would do:

Mow or clear the entire area as low to the ground as possible.

Spray with RoundUp or other similar herbicide.

Rake the area clear (using a tractor with a york rake/landscape rake)

Add or ammend soil as needed.

Seed.

FYI: depending on what was growing in that garden, it may keep coming back despite the fact that it was sprayed and removed and the area re-seeded.

Roundup everthing now. The stuff will come out so much easier when it comes time to remove it.

Roundup now... Mow down in fall... Till deeply and level 2-3 weeks before you will plant... soil ammendments when you till... Water for 2 weeks after tilling to sprout new seeds... spray with roundup... 3 or so days later till the top 1" and seed.
