I've owned and used about 8 different Lawnboy models. The earliest was a 1967 "tin-top" that ran forever. I always liked the sound of the C and D models. Have a couple of F engines and I have seen two of them where the connecting rod screws just backed out and the engines blew. It seems like the D's are the smoothest and best sounding but the F's have more power. I never liked the self propelled models and hate the super fancy ones with all the gadgets and the rear bags. I'm not too fond of the ones with the blade clutch. I prefer the simple 1970's or 80's commercial D models without all the junk. I've got one of the later D's with electronic ignition and it really runs good. What's your favorite?

I do not remember the model number/s, but it was very old (50's/60's). The shape of the motor was distinctive. Facing from the front, The metal top was about 12 to 14" wide and about 8" deep. It was mounted on either an 18inch or 19" deck.

The sound of that engine purred. It was so light and had such supreme power for size and weight. I sold hundreds of the new ones (in the 80's). But I always used my old "wide top" (nickname) when I mowed my lawn.

My father purchase a lawn boy in the late 70's... My brother and I mowed our 1 acre yard with that mower for 15 years!! The mower is now at our cabin in Michigan and still runs like a champ to this day. Heavy duty, cast aluminum deck, nothing fancy just your basic mower... a real workhorse. The smell, sound, and the offset front wheel (made that unique pattern while mowing) brings back memories every time I use it!!!

there is a song by Tim Mc Graw that I thought of when I read this post "I remember when"
It was about the good ol days when life was simple

??? I have one in my shed. I never had to have anything done to it really, best 21" mower I've ever owned. Love the oil injection too. I'd still be using it but it is in need of a little engine work. If it dosn't start in about 2 pulls it will gas foul the spark plug. My guess is that it's not sparking hot enough to fire right off, a buddy of mine said it's likely the reed valves not working right and allowing the fuel into the cylinder too early and too much.

Mine isn't the oldest models though. I want to say I bought it in '95/'96. Mines non-BBC too, I was 16, didn't have the extra funds for that fancy of a mower, lol. I know of several commercial cutters that had the M series LB's on their trailers through this last season! Can't find parts around here anymore though.

ahhhh ya scared me with that pic lol. they worked out many problems near the end of those units but the first ones were bad. as far as parts yea you will have a problem. never had a problem with the reeds. check the coil or the kill wire that goes to the coil.
