I have a Walker 1999 MTGHS with 48in deck and I am trying to replace the blower. I have the thing unbolted but can't get it out of the machine. Does it come out the top or bottom? Do you have to take the pulley off the get it out of the maching.

Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It will come out the bottom. I had to replace mine because I am an idiot (long story, but I am leaving at that). Lucily one of my friends is a Walker expert and helped me do it, but it is really quite simple. If I recall correctly, all there is to it is set the back of the machine on blocks about a foot or so off the ground, then unbolt everything, take the bracket off the bottom, and it'll slide right out.

Thanks for the help. I will take another look at it in the morning. I have all of the bolts out and it definitely did not fall out. The part where the ghs from the deck slides into the blower has a welded bracket beneath it and the other side of the blower is bolted to a bracket. It will have to slide one way or another before it will slip out the bottom.

Any idea if you have to take the pulley off first?

Thanks for your help

Pretty sure the pulley came out with the blower.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, lol, I have not replaced a blower on an MT. The smaller machines are set up a little differently, but I think I was told both are removed through the bottom. No matter what machine, it's a TIGHT fit. You will have to unbolt the "flange" off the front of the blower that the plastic chute goes into. The new blower will have to have the flange removed to get it into place... At least that's how the smaller machines are.

Jason,

That sounds like what I need to do is to take the flange off. I bought this machine with 268 hr on it and the blower went out at 300hr. It seems that this is common around here with the all the sand. It looks like the blower blades pick of the sand and transfer it to the heel of the blade and literally sandblast a stripe around the inside of the housing. I am replacing it with one of the case hardened blowers and hopefully will get a few more hours out of it. The case hardened blower costs about $100 more.

Thanks again for the tip. I would have eventually done this but you save a lot of cussin and fussin.

Walker FINALLY got smart and made the new 10.5 inch blower where you can just replace the piece around the blower that wears the groove in it. Still have to take the thing out, but it was $60 instead of $100 or more! Also they changed the impeller where it bolts onto the shaft so you don't have to replace the $40 bearing after beating the old one out!

I have replaced the old style blower and you do have to disassemble it to get it out. I am going to replace the 10.5" blower this week after about 450 hours. That's about the same hours I had to replace the blower on my '05 also.

When I replaced mine I took the deck off, tiped the unit right over on its side, removed the tire and unbolted it. Originally I bought just the impeller and found that it was apita to get the impeller off, so I went ang got the whole housing and slid it in. Just this week I was able to match up the bearings and am going to replace the damaged impeller with the old housing.
