This weekend. Got 2 new lawns. My question is when do I get to quit my job? Did you guys wait till you broke even or just have enough monthly cash flow to cover liabilties?

It's August. Where were your flyers in March? We pass out 20000 flyers every year. For the last 15 years. Are you looking for beer money, or a career?

ncls, do you and your crew pass out the flyers yourselves or do you hire it out? I'm wanting to do about 10K next spring and am trying to figure out the best way to get it done.

Take it easy you over achiever. Don't know what it is like in your part of Florida but things have been pretty slow here. Usually am turning down 5 to 7 accounts during the season a week. This year have done maybe 5 whole est. Heck I may have to get a real job to support my lawn mowing addiction.

We pass out some. We hire Boy Scout troops to pass out some. We hire church groups to pass out some. Any non profit group will do the leg work for cheap.

Being outside of Cleveland, we have a couple of companies that pass out fliers for a living. If I print them, they pass them out for about 350.00 per 5000.

Here is a copy of my flier. We already fill in the price. Less wasted time.

At least you are out there hustling. I noticed you do weed prevention. What does this mean? If you spray ANYTHING in Florida, you will need the appropriate license. You can PM me if you need info.

Thats a good idea. We thought about doing that. When do you put in the prices before hand? Seems confusing.

Generally speaking most neighborhoods have about the same size yards. We just fill in the info as we go. We mainly use the fliers on the not so nicely kept properties. trailer parks are the best for this type of flier. All the lots are the same.

Yeah my friend, who just sold some accounts to me:) told me trailer parks are good places to get business. I'll have to try that this weekend.

Sorry if I was a thread hi-jacker. You didnt give us very much pertinent info about yourself in regards to what it takes to go full time. With your flyers a catchy line such as "Take back your weekends." is best at the top to get attention. Put your info at the bottom. You have about 1 second to get their interest before it goes in the trash.

your flyers look like something the neighborhood kid made...... and yes you need to be insured, and you are obviusly not a licensed pesticide applicator, which you need to be to spray for weeds....

why dont you start at the beginning, get a good business name, register it with the state, apply for any state and local licenses, bet commercial plates and insurance for your vehicles, get some decent looking professional flyers, and get a few accounts, then a few more next year , and so on..... in time you can establish yourself as a legitimate business till then......

check your state laws to see what you need to do to be a legal business, the run of the mill fly by night operations never last...

That's why the flyer says "never cut your grass again"

So:laugh: post one of your "grown up" flyers so I know what I am doing wrong.

I do have a good name and I don't spray anything I just prevent weeds by pulling or whippin em. :cool2:

It is easy to get a "limited" applicators license (aka Roundup license). It will allow you to spray chemicals in beds. You just have to pay the money, take the class, pass the test and get 4 ceu's per year plus renewal fee.
