Do you guys pack a lunch to save money? or do you go out to eat for lunch?
Personally I love to eat and I eat out 5 days a week for lunch. It's my reward for working so dam hard.
My lunch expenses are $50.00 a week.

What do you eat for lunch break?
Lunch.
J/K, I like to eat out too, but have started packing a lunch to save money and to try to eat healthier. When I eat out for lunch, I am never drawn to healthy food, I often get the $6 guacamole and bacon burger. MMMMM, but with a large fries and soda, not very healthy.

A sandwich or two in the cooler, and some chips and/or granola bar. The heat this time of the year makes me not want to eat as much, but you need to eat. With the price of everything going up, I try to save where I can.

Dollar menu at the closest fast food place or if I am close enough to home I will just go home and make a sandwich or something. I get some funny looks every once in a while pulling the trailer through the drive-ups

on days when I'm close to home that's where I eat. When I do eat out it is usually Subway although that adds up. Yesterday I hit up the Dollar menu at McD's with a double cheeseburger, fries and sweet tea. The Chicken Snackers at KFC at pretty good and cheap too. I HAVE to eat though. If I don't I ain't worth killin'.

I usually eat a little breakfast and for lunch I usually take a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I don't want to eat too much when it's so hot. I usually have a protein drink with me too mixed with water instead of milk. Now supper...I eat like crazy.

The problem when I bring lunch is, it's gone by 10am...so then I end up stopping and buying a late lunch say around 2 or 3.
I'm not sure how much cheaper it really is to pack a lunch, considering I rarely spend more than $5 when I eat out. I mean, sure it is cheaper but just the whole inconvenience of getting it all ready the night before. Lunch meat is not cheap, you buy enough to make sandwiches for the entire week, plus snacks, bread, etc, and it makes me wonder if it's really worth the effort.

My reward for working as much as I do is to stop at a nearby diner and EAT. Yes it is about $50-60 a week. But I don't think I work as hard as I do only to have to skip lunch or eat a cold lunch like how many of the wage slaves working for a third world plantation boss do. If I cannot afford $8 a day for lunch, I am doing something wrong. Back when I was someone's employee, company policy was "employees not allowed to leave jobsite for lunch". I either violated that policy or worse, skipped lunch, made it up at dinner and had the lunch hour charged back to the company.

If I do eat lunch, I usually pack a couple sandwhiches and some chips or tedddy ghrams or something like that. Ham or turkey and cheese usually works. Though I prolly only eat lunch 2-3 days of the week. Normally I'm hauling pretty good so I don't get time to think about and then I'm not hungry.

Reading through these posts, it surely helps explain why we have a nation of people with health problems.
With all the threads about which oil to use in the engines, which grade of gasoline to put in our 2-strokes, what filters to put on the hydro systems, which blades to mount to the deck spindles, etc. it sounds like some are more concerned about taking care of their equipment than their own bodies. From most of the posts in this thread, I can conclude that most don't care much about taking care of themselves (e.g. no lunch, "grabbing what I can," energy bar and gatorade, ...). Don't think those eating habits will not catch up in the long run, maybe even in the short run.
Why? Do those with these poor habits believe they are bullet-proof? Just curious ...
Let us not wonder why health costs are high.

I rarely eat lunch when i am working, I generally eat before I go out, or just load up on gatorade. Its just too damn hot to eat down here in Fl. During the winters I'll grab a hot dog, or small lunch, but thats about it.

Hand full of grass clipings try to find the dry ones so they dont fill me up and slow me down. On fri I treat myself for a good week and pick nice green leaves off a tree. If I do a bad job I force myself to eat a pile of dog S!@t to remind me not to mess up again.

I try to stop at whatever place is closest to me at the time. With my route I'm pretty much at the same place one a certian day each week. Subway, Burger King, Bruams, Spangles (somewhat local hamburger place), and hotdogs from a gas station, and even at home on mondays since I'm close... Yes, most meals are inhaled while driving to the next job, I'll finish eating once I get there, then swallow the last bite and jump onto the mower. So far I haven't puked yet, lol.
I'd LOVE to sit down and eat my lunch at the restruant, or even go to other places, but my schedule dosn't allow time for running around or sitting down and eating much. I used to sit down for lunch every day but this year I seem to be WAY too busy... Yes I have to skip eating some days too, though I make a habbit of keeping granola bars in the console of the truck for these 'emergencies'.
Talking about drinks, and everyone drinking so much poweraide/gatoraide, does anyone else have this problem... I drink a couple and within a day or so my face is braking out in zits like I was 16 again. I've narrowed it down to the sports drink is the cause. That tells me just how MUCH sugar is in that crap... Frankly when I drink it I don't "feel" any better then if I just drink water. Needless to say I gave up the sports drinks.

I puke after I drink those. They just don't set well with me.
My lunch is always great. I live north and my parents live south. Always a nice meal in either direction!

I am very blessed to be able to stop at home many times for lunch. Granted, the time varies... Sometimes it's 11:00, and sometimes it 3 or 4:00. I make myself a nice salad, or tuna or chicken sandwich or something. One in a great while, I will shut my eyes for 20 minures to a half hour, and when I get up, I feel like a new person. It feels like I rested for a couple of hours - I'm that refreshed. Sometimes (most of the time), while eating, I will do some reading here for entertainment.:) I think I must not be the only one, because you see the oddest people on here during the day. Now like this morning, I have some trimming of trees and brush out behind the old barn of the rental house, and I am sort of stalemated for a bit, as I have to get new shackles for my trailer, and the trailer supply place doesn't open until 8. I have it all disassembled,...just have to get it together.

Yeah i experimented with this... it really isn't.
I actually spent under $2 less packing a lunch than eating out - but eating out provided me (usually) with a comfortable seat, A/C... just a nice break for 1/2 an hour instead of chowing down a couple sandwiches in the truck.

But at the same time
Burgers and all that usually make me sluggish and not as productive in the afternoon, but until the boss says something, i'm gonna keep eating.

I work three days a week and I try to stop less then 1 day a week for food. My Routes are very close to my house, so I stop at home to grab a sandwich and drink.
I do however always carry over 100 ounces of water with my to drink.

You guys with wives that prepare your food for you are lucky!
It sounds like subway and mexican food are the favorites for eating out, that's what I like to do, sometimes popeye's chicken.
My favorite lunch to bring is peanut butter on raisin bread! Sometimes we take watermelon in the cooler.
I hate to eat in the truck so I try to find a nice shady tree.

On a hot day, I might drink almost 70 ounces in an hour, usually about half that. You need to stay hydrated!
Lunches vary - sometimes we go somewhere, sometimes we don't. I made a conscious effort to buy healthier snacks and lunch foods, and that seems to work out pretty good. We take a bunch of smaller breaks and we don't get hungry and - even better - we don't get the loaded-down-with-food-naptime-please? effect.

Its just me and another guy now. When I first started I bought the guys lunch. What a waste of money.
I remember my first job ever doing a 200'+ retaining wall. I bought everyone subway because I thought it was healthier and would keep everyone moving. All the guys downed a whole sub. Short time later we were all zombies from the carb loaded bread. I will never make that mistake again.
Now I try to eat oatmeal for fiber in the morning and a few eggs because they are burned slower and keep you full till 11 or so. With the fiber moving slow and the eggs shortly behind I find this to be a great filling meal. Mens Health did an article about the power of eating eggs a few months back and they said studies show that eating eggs in the morning lowers your overall intake of calories throughout the day. I thought it was cool and have not looked back.
For lunch I try to pack a sandwich or wrap or 2 with wheat bread. Carbs really slow me down. A few pieces of fruit and an emergency strawberry protein shake (GNC), if I work late. Oh and tons of water.

I eat a light breakfast (including a banana almost every day for the potassium), and these organic cereal/granola bars during the day... no stinkin high fructose corn syrup. A great breakfast? Coffee, OJ, a banana, and a two egg glass of egg nog. Two raw eggs, a dash of vanilla extract, some sweetener, and 1% milk. Wisk it and drink up. It's the original smoothie/energy drink... and it works.
Gatorade is awful stuff... swore off of it, and drink 1 part pomegranit juice to 3 parts water all day, and a lot of it. Chilled, but not ice cold... the body will use chilled fluids more rapidly than very cold fluids. I drink about a gallon a day. I drink even when I'm not thirsty. If I don't have to urinate 3 times during the workday, I know I am under hydrated.
You guys eating burgers and other trash... you would be amazed at how a hefty salad instead will fuel you and supply energy... maybe have some dry tuna fish with it and go light on the dressing. lay off the bread.
Do that, and you can pretty much do whatever you want for dinner every night... pizza, whatever.

I eat leftovers from supper or make myself a sandwich. But I always have apples, blueberries, strawberry's, some kinda fruit. I think they most revitalizing drink/ snack is a apple, blueberry's with a little bit of whip cream, and some fruit punch juice boxes. I think it works bettter than gatorade/ powerade
