yeah I knew basically where the water flowed from the back so I figured it would be alright, seems thats all I do is much hills and I never had a problem yet I have had one or 2 flat ones where a bit of mulch had been washed out one being a new bed I made at our house!

Well, its been a while. I have some really good news and some really bad news. Guess I will start in the order it happened. October 1st I drove to ohio and brought a new to me 2008 Duramax ext. cab long bed 4x4 2500HD. This will be more of a personal truck and will most likely not get a plow/spreader etc.

And now for the bad news...
Monday October 3rd we are out mowing and I get a phone call from my cousin saying my blue truck is toast  my grandma saw it and called 911 it was sitting at my neighbors house where I park it and the engine was cold it had been sitting for over 20hrs. burnt a little of the neighbors siding but the rest of the house is ok and no one was harmed. My 2 cousins who were up the street tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher and garden house and had no luck. Truck is totaled and cause was undetermined. Its really kept me up at night wondering what could have caused it it had to be electrical it had no leaks etc. It was my first truck and I really am gunna miss it... Now with leaves school etc i am trying to find a dump because I need at the very least 2 plow-salt trucks for this winter. My aunt took all those pictures of it for me.

What are the chances that within two days of you buying that new truck, ole' blue catches fire?! :dizzy:

Thats to bad about the blue truck man. I personally would just slap a plow on the dmax, it would make a great plowing machine.

Man sucks to hear about the blue truck, I really liked what you had done to that truck. If it was plow wiring I'd sue them people that put it on there man. Course who knows what the cause was, could've had a squirrel chew up a wire or who knows what. Anyways, glad your all ok man and best of luck to you with the new truck and the rest of your season.

Just my thoughts man, but a duramax is meant to work, not be a personal truck. Put a plow on it and you'll have two hd's working for you. Go and buy you another 1/2 ton chevy to be your personal truck.

I know right??? Yeah I know for the first half of the thread thats all it is is pictures of the blue truck its all I had back then. I like white for work and I put my personal touch on them as you can see with the 03 2500hd.

Yeah I know its crazy I talked to insurance company friday afternoon to get things final for the new truck on saturday then I was calling them monday afternoon about this needless to say I was just as shocked as you guys
Thats to bad about the blue truck man. I personally would just slap a plow on the dmax, it would make a great plowing machine.

Highly doubt I will, my reasoning is that in Pittsburgh we do just as much if not more salting than plowing. I need another bulk spreader and do not want to put a spreader on the 08. I would think about a plow on it as a backup plow truck because thats what the blue one was going to be and I might need it this winter but for now I am focused on finding a dump truck

Doubt it was a plow wiring issue they did a good job and there is no way to prove anything because the cause of fire was ruled undetermined. My best guess is the blower motor resistor wiring or some of my wiring to lights, but I am pretty sure I had everything fused.
Actually within the next week I am going over the 03 2500hd and putting more fuses in the wiring just to be safe.

Read above for my reasoning on why i probably wont put a plow on it. I wanted a diesel as my DD not a half ton. I do a lot of driving up to my camp and to Ohio in the summer towing a big pintle trailer with a truck on the back so thats why I wanted a truck like the 08 as a more personal vehicle though from time to time it may be used to tow things like the bobcat etc.

Well I got another truck to replace the blue truck. Went all the way to Kentucky to get it. Me and dad drove down there on Sunday with a trailer and the duramax. 700 miles, 4 tanks of fuel, and 16hrs late shes home safe.

Got a 2007 3500hd chassis 4x4 142k it will get a new dump bed plow and spreader.

Ice buildup from drive down-there was alot of fog at 5am I almost smacked a deer in the highway too

Yep plow and spreader from blue truck are for sale locally if anyone wants them
I like the the new truck congrats. But one question why does the front end look so low? or is that just how it sits?
one because there is nothing on the back and also because the newer ones do sit lower I plan to get timbrens and crank the t-bars some to get it a little higher
Nice! Just want to say sorry about the Honda's though. Bad tran's and the heaviest POS push mower you can buy.
haha really? I have used alot of push mowers honda is the best by far. I have 2 of these and theve been worked hard maybe some of the lower grade models are junk but man I hove the HRX217's

Yeah I am hoping with timbrens and cranking the t-bars the plow/mount will be ok but the 03 definitely has a nicer stance currently

Congrats on the new truck, it looks great. I cranked the t bars on a friends 08 Chevy dump and it looked alot better. Between that and timbrens it should look alot better. Maybe some beefier tires down the road. I'd recommend having it realigned after you adjust the torsion bars. Good luck and have fun with it.

if i were in your shoes i would get that thing to work right away by taking some scrap angle iron, weld it together and throwing some 2x12 on top so you have some use of this truck..... with a flatbed.

Why would I waste money and time when its getting a dump bed soon I dont need the truck that bad and the spreader will be attached to the dump body I have the other work truck to pull trailers and my dmax if I really needed it

they raise it up a little but help support the wieght of the plow alot. I also put them on the back for carrying loads too. They usually run about 200 for the front and 200 for the back they are a must especially for chevy plow trucks

Its getting a regular mason style dump bed half is already down on it I am just waiting for the bed to come in so they can put it on. No truck has manual l/w its a work truck model power l/w is just something else that can break especially when I plow with my window down 75% of the time

The main battery, connects to a breaker before going to the other battery:

Second battery has another wire that connects to a maxi fuse and then heads into the cab:

What kind of prep work was done before the herculiner application?

I was thinking about doing something like this to my 99 Dodge before the rust gets any worse. I don't want to spend thousands since I might not keep the truck for long.

Brad more questions.... what model hedge trimmer do you have and some specs on it if it wouldn't be much trouble. As much as i would like to stay all stihl i looked at a lower end redmax. I also checked out the huskies which have better power ratios.

I feel you guys on winter maintenance, i'm painting about 80% of my lesco, fixed the kill switch, having my friend weld the deck. Probably throwing some parts at the exmark, (caster bearings are smoked, fixing the big rubber flap between the wheels, crease fittings all over the place). I quit target and got a job at Tom Henry Chervolet so the more it snows the more cars i have to clean haha.

A buddy I work with here and there has a set of the Stihl HS-45s and I;ve used them before, and to be honest they suck. And I'm not just saying that Because I have a sour taste in my mouth about Stihl stuff. I'd honestly prefer my Kawasaki ones, and I'm not overly crazy about those either. I like RedMax stuff, never tried their hedge trimmers, and I like the Echo HC-150s too, cant really go wrong with those for a good entry level hedge trimmer.

oakwdman
12-15-2011, 11:48 AM
The hs-45s do suck, they're on the heavy side which isn't too bad but the gas tank is just so small I was trimming along side of an echo 150 and I went through 2 tanks to his 1 in the same amount of time both running WOT mostly

Sorry to jack your thread Brad.

I'm a little sketched out by echo stuff because them seem a little chincy and they use the same motor for all of their hedgers. I might go with the echo or redmax for now just to start up and if the amount of hedges i do picks up i'll go with a big husky maybe.

If you can actually find parts for the hc-150 i don't feel so apprehensive about buying them then.

deere615
12-16-2011, 06:03 PM
Whats so hard about finding parts? I have never had that problem. Echo stuff does seem a little cheaper I havent really had many problems besides the newer equipment having carb problems-This year total I think I had to have 4 carbs adjusted (2 bp blowers, one hand blower, one trimmer)and had one replaced(trimmer). The hedge trimmers I had no problems with but they don't see as much use as a trimmer or blower either.

An example is the forums, podcast, videos tabs at the top of the page. You can just click the yellow instead of having to actually hit the wording.

You may have answered this at some point in your thread but its a long thread... Before you got your new chevy dump, how did/do you like your dump trailer? I see its only 5x8. This year I plan on getting one, probably 6x12' Bri-mar but afraid it maybe too small. A buddy of mine as a 6'6"x16' I believe I he runs out of room all of the time. After getting yours, did you ever regretting not getting a bigger size? Or has that size been plenty that you have ever needed? Any insight on yours and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Ya I think I might look into that or magic next year, I notice I put it down real heavy on lots so they are nice and clean when owners come in etc but after the storm my lots are WHITE! So I want something that looks cleaner after the fact

I loved that dump I brought that size because all I had then was a halfton truck, still I think with the hills around here too much bigger of a trailer would start hurting my 2500hd. For the most aprt it was the right size most mulch jobs are 5-6yards and thats what it held there were times i had to make 2-3 trips though. When it came to hauling stone I could only carry 2-3ton but once again most jobs were not too big.
I still have the trailer and will keep it this season and see how much I use it with having the dump truck. The trailer is nice because with the single axle its rare and the custom made gate on it is a huge plus.

All the snow melted so we did a little job here yesterday-regraveled a driveway for a condo association. It was right about 20tons and had to do it all with the dump because it was back a tight alley with trees and low telephone lines where even a 10ton dump probably wouldn't fit.

Before we blew all the leaves out then graveled after that:
238200

getting loaded with 2a limestone
238202

That was 4.5ton in that load!! handled it like a champ!:weightlifter:
238203

We could tailgate some of it but still needed to spread some by hand The dump didnt tailgate perfectly and there were alot of lines and tree branches we had to work around

No We tailgating and spread it all by hand it was easier than bring the bobcat at least for this one had I been able to get a triaxle back there I would have done that and just brought the bobcat there.
Nice job tailgating that. I'm still not very good at that.
I got a video of it it wast perfect we only got it to flow good like 3 times. had alot of little piles here and there and the first time we had the gate open too much and it came out too fast. It would jam up every so often and some parts wouldn't flow. Definitely takes alot of practice and a good spotter.
Looks good, glad to see the dump being put to use.:weightlifter:
Me too thanks!

spreading with the tractor is easy its just the time to load the tractor and take it to the job. Tailgating takes some practice thats for sure.

Yeah, I really want a Duramax, but they're 5k more than the 6.0 for comparable condition. Not saying it's not worth it, but I don't want a high truck payment...but when I get a new truck, I'd like to get more than the 8-10 I'm getting now.

mine is a nbs though there is no valence its all bumper. I kinda don't like leveled trucks as much because as soon as a load is on its sagging like in you picture- I dont plan on hauling a ton in the bed but still will be pulling trailers

Duramax no question you will see 10 in a 6.0 A 6L is a work truck engine get a duramax 00-06 you should be able to find a decent one for a decent payment, you can custimize the truck alot more and its a 1000 times funnier to drive, can tow alot more easier etc. Maintenace will be higher but if your looking for a nice DD and still work truck when you need it thats the way to go IMO.

BIG truck! trucks like that you park at the end of the isle no matter what ya 6.0s are strong and reliable but just really not a great DD because of the fuel mileage. A diesel truck is so much nicer and funner to drive!

It is electric not PTO. I wish it was PTO but It was alot more money, I could spreader salt a bit fast and tailgate stone better but I just didn't want to spend that much, if the truck was brand new I might have, electric works pretty good but I know PTO is faster

Needless to say I went and got it right then and there-I am never that lucky!! sure its just a bed-liner but ya can't beat free!!

The picture does not do justice to how close it was it was literally about 3 inches from the back bumper and the other piece to the right actually broke off and was laying underneath the bumper

Rebuilt a retaining wall that was leaning Monday & Tuesday put all new gravel behind it and hauled away all the dirt and limestone that was there and had to rebuild 3/4 of the base of the wall. Also put a drain behind it since that was skipped out on when the wall was originally built.

Its a Top Brand trailer 7k 2-3500k axles. I am still good with the tractor on there but the old gate couldn't handle the weight the new one I had built last year thats on there now does better but I still get weary. I use this half the time and my uncles deckover half the time but his was and still is loaded with wood
