So whats everyone drive? I notice some have trailers some trucks. Would like to see pictures and hear what everyone else is using. btw will post pics tomorrow. But our most recent truck is a 08 2500HD with utility body for service/new installs. Works pretty well a lot of lockable storage. I'm still trying to find a sleek looking back rack for ladders. I just don't want to put a big ol ugly ladder rack on it just yet. So anyway whats everyone else have?

GMC Sonoma w/ Stahl utility bed. Even with a lot of tools on board the 4.3 V6 seems to help me keep my fuel costs down...

Next work vehicle might be one of these...

Looked up the ford transit in the above looking post, pretty cool looking car/van. would be perfect for service, but if Ford's bringing over the van from europe, why not bring over the 4 cylinder turbo diesel with it? It is a brand new engine for last year, with high pressure injection and meets the new emissions requirements in the UK for 2011. it could easily pass current emissions here. the diesel gets 40+ mpg !

my dream rig is the older ( 2007 and earlier ) dodge sprinter diesel that gets 30mpg, and I'll buy them when they drop to around 10 grand or so in the used market.

currently I've got a diesel bus, a ford full size van, 2 ford f-150's and a honda odyssey minivan, all for business. I will buy an additional used van/cargo van this christmas season.

I am not buying through JDL anymore. I found a distributor that actually sells Unique at a price that makes sense. I am saving literally HUNDREDS on every job.

With the end of GM's leasing programs I have no idea what I will be replacing this with come Spring 09. Perhaps a Toyota Tundra... but I hear they are nasty on fuel.

I test drove an 08 Tundra yesterday. 17k for the base model which has a v6, auto with auto standard, and pwr windows. nice truck. I wondered if the 07-08 is better on fuel than previous years.

Looking at a Silverado, about the same price but not near as nice as the toyota. Employee pricing on top of the incentives begins wednesday. I was told thats about 800.00 below invoice - 5000.00

Fords, I don't like the XL and XLT is a big jump in price.

Or I could keep the 97 Z71. Looks good for a work truck but suuuucckkk gas.

yeah right easy to say about the big three because the tundra is a relatively new truck. so they've only been competing with one another. Now it's catch up time. Clearly you haven't compared trucks.

Engineered obsolcence has finally blown back on the big three.

Did you see "Saving General Motors" on NPR? what an embarrashing mess they have made. UAW milking the system, cutting corners, dropping the ball. Quality control overlooked.

And ford or chrylser is better than GM. Very argueable statement. So the fact is Toyota at least has caused the "BIG 3" to do their job. The new Silverado is hands down better than before. Still the brakes, frame and drive train are substandard. Ford is a Ford is a Ford. Dodge is a niche market. Nissan may be on the radar too. I haven't looked at the TItan closely.

Blah, blah, blah. All this just to tote around a 6x10 trailer with two lawn mowers...... IMPRESSIVE!

TPnTX
08-21-2008, 09:11 AM
well I agree with you there chris if thats all you do. I'm affraid 5 yards of mulch or 4 yards of landscape mix or 2-3 pallets of grass or 2 pallets of stone or a (60" ztr, 36" wb, 2-21", 3-trimmers,2-blowers, essential tools powered and non, all crammed on a 16' LCO trailer with racks bins, full sprayers, full gas cans.....and a spare tire) is a different story all together none of which is meant to impress anybody. Well maybe a customer or two.

O ive compared. Tundra is just a way over priced wanna be 3/4 ton. The interior looks and feels cheap to me. And im not all that impressed with the power. I dont know what the big deal is. Maybe its just that i hate gas engines i dont know. but the chevy vortec max feels much stronger along with the hemi. But you will never catch me owning one.

Fords 09 f150 will beat it out, and the new dodge will beat it out. I will agree Gm has got some work to do to catch up, they have definately slipped. but they will eventually.
