I am trying to decide what to do for a replacement mower. I have 3 acres. It has open land and partial trees. I found a 2003 toro 14-38z for sale. they are asking 1600. I think I can get a better deal on this, but I want to know if its even worth looking at. I would prefer a new one, but I am really short on cash. I like the idea of the Hustler Mini FasTrack, but they are not cheap. I've looked at others, but its hard to choose. I don't think I could go much beyond 3k, and I really don't want to spend that. What do you think about the toro?

A 2003?
I think that's made by MTD. At that price - RUN!
MTD is an outfit that makes mowers for everyone and anyone. They used to be better than they are now (even 5 years ago).
For $1600, you're better off buying somewhere else (even Sears), but not the JDs for less than 3k.

That's what I was wondering. I went looking at new one this weekend and it was slim pickings. Everything was made by one of the mtd sub companies except for the cheap Deere and there was a swisher. The Swisher was the only one that didn't have a stamped deck, but it had a Briggs motor. I was under the impression that you should get anything but the Briggs these days.

yea, as suggested above, look at something else. Those residential toro units are produced very cheap in mexico and fall apart like crazy, and need many repairs. Look at the craftsmans from sears or another brand for your budget.
