I need to build a retaining wall behind my house that will be between 4 and 5 feet high. The slope behind the wall will be at least 3:1. I'm in the Mid-Atlantic region so the soil will likely be clay. I am looking for a solution that does not require geogrid so I can minimize the amount of soil to be removed. I am familiar with Redi-Rock but do not like the fact that it must be installed/removed with equipment. I'm afraid at that height I can't avoid using geogrid but I wanted to check with the experts. Thanks for any suggestions!

Could pour a concrete wall. They have stamped forms, or you could always motar on some stone.
