I am about to seed my new 1 acre lawn. I need your advice. I have a S300 bobcat skid steer and can rent a harley rake. If I rake the soil, fertilize and brodcast the fescue seed, do I manually rake in the seed, or do you go over it again with the harley rake? In the past I have harrowed the seed in, and got decent results. I have been told this gets the seed to deep? What is the best solution? I will mulch with straw when it is done. I am not a professional, but would like your input.

The use of machinery has lots of variables -so to say that a harley rake would get the seed too deep would depend on how you can rake it in with a particular soil.
Grass seed needs to settle in about 1/4 inch deep and stay moist through germination and some time beyond. If you can do that with a harley rake and no straw - that is good. What is the skidster for?

Harley rake mounts on the skid steer. All ideas welcome.
