Been working on a monument for our fire dept. Pretty much done, just need the sign guy to finish up a faux wood beam to cover the I beam and finish up the pillars with 3 more courses, add lights on them and some plaques.

Great job. What did you use to remove all the vegetation and what did you use to grade the island? A bobcat? What attachments were used?

Also, what is used as fill inside the retaining wall? Rock or dirt? Did you do anything for drainage?

Sorry bout all the q's, just trying to learn a few things.

Once again, looks great.

Who payed for that? Great before and after.

Tyler- Asphalt and veg. was removed with the backhoe. We brought in 40yds of fill to bring up the grade for the Belgian block curbing and graded it out with the t300 aswell as 25yds of topsoil for final grade. the final grade was graded out by hand. as for the fill in the planter it is 3/4 clean gravel wrapped in fabric and then fill and topsoil inside.

NNJLandman - we have some low voltage in there. 300w transformer and 5 well lights. i will probably add 1 more well light in the center. i dont know the best settings for night lighting pictures but i snapped a couple shots. still waiting for the HID flag pole light under the american flag.

Lawnworks- town payed for it. They promised us a new one after the additions were done at the firehouse since they had to take down the old one.

heres some shots with the hydrants

I was going to mention that too... classic building style. How old is the place?

BTW, solid job with the monument!

Thanks, the building was built in 1926 i think. the fd was established in 1908 so this is kind of a 100 yr anniversary thing too. that ring is one of the originals that was placed around town to ring when there was a fire.

the bobcat is a t300
