Hi,

How does one compare a certain lawn mower engine speed with a musical pitch?

All lawn mowers would have blade tip speeds no higher than 19,000 fpm (feet per minute). Thus, would the governed speed of 3820 rpm signify a musical pitch of A above middle C, or 440 Hz?

Here's an interesting site (although it's about wheelbuilding for bicycling):
http://www.bikexprt.com/bicycle/tension.htm

When there, scroll down to the bottom of the page for the musical chart.

well, i don't know about that. i would use a park wheel tensioner when i would build my own bike wheels, but i KNOW i can set a Kohler CS12T motor at exactly 3590-3610r's just by hearing it. i love that motor. that and the fh500v kawi.

Yes, I enjoy listening to the revs of my engines and I would say there is definitely a musical quality to it,
but whether a talented musician would agree is another story :p
