Need a new motor for the Exmark, was wondering if anyone has ever had the block machined and a bearing installed on the fan side of the block for the crank.
I've got too much wear and the crank has play.......blowing oil everywhere.
Doomed to buy new or is there hope with a good machine shop?

Never done it, I wouldnt think it would be worth the time to try it.

It's usually not worth it, the labor and parts will run you about what a new engine would,
not saying it hasn't been done but it appears the general tactic is DIY...

I have a 23hp kawasaki with the same problem and with my engine the bushing comes out they say it doesnt come out but it does they just dont give you a part number for it. So i just done a little reasearch and found a part number and its made by INA bearing and i have it on order. So if you have a little machanic in you i belive you can do it and if so there is ALOT of money difference in that and a new engine. I have to get a new bushing and new crank to have mine back good. Its cheaper if you can do the work yourself but a shop may rip you a new one. Hope this helps!

if you have wear on the crank brg surfaces and block bushings, there is usually wear on the cylinder finish, ring gaps, etc, etc. 1300 hours is a decent amount of time on a air cooled, why waste time and money machining and rebuilding correctly ( honing, rings maybe boring/pistons, crank, crank bushings, rods, gaskets, valves, etc) will prolly run a $300-500. You can buy new engines now from discount places and dealers for anywhere from $1000-1600.00 and you are starting fresh again with a 2 year warranty. save your old motor for a parts donor when needed. look for a ch740-3117 (comes with h-d canister filter also) Or see about a shortblock 24-522-307 , at least it has everything except the heads, int and exh. should be able to find them for 700-925
** also something to look into if the rest of the engine has no wear, if its just wearing the crank and block bushing areas, sometimes the elect clutches go bad and send electricity trickling thru the crank looking for a ground and it can eat away at the block/bushings/cranks. Kawi/kohler/scag/toro/ exmark all had some issues with this a few years back**
good luck
