1996 chevy c2500,350 v8 ,auto with a/c.Can i buy a serp belt for a truck that doesnt have a/c and put it on my truck?The reason im asking is my
trucks a/c compressor siezed up yesterday and i dont want to sink alot of money into a truck with 181000 miles and summer is almost over.The truck runs great ,almost like it has 50,000 miles.Im about to install a dump insert
and timbrens on it and build a leaf collection system for the fall so i would like to see it make money before i start dumping cash into it.:drinkup:

Yeah you got to be dang careful if that system has a charge in it,
it's not just against the law to vent the stuff but also pretty dangerous.
The stuff will cause instant frostbite if it comes into contact with skin,
and at an average pressure of 50 psi on an inactive system the chances
are there.... Don't forget once an a/c system shuts down the high side
bleeds pressure over into the low so the psi's are equal throughout the
system and there is no such thing as a low and a high side then.
Once the compressor has been replaced you'll need to recharge it,
with the system running you'll need gauges to get the correct pressure,
that is, if you want a/c.
Just be dang careful or let a shop handle it, best I can tell you.

i took the old compressor off and put the new one on with a new serp belt in about 1 hr,but i did get a big surprise when i undid the main line off the top of the compressor.i thought when the compressor went that the system would be empty,wrong wrong:dizzy:for safety i had wrapped a towel around the top and im very lucky because it had some serious pressure when i cracked it open .lesson learned .following day i dropped it off at ROOTS AUTO IN OLDSAYBROOK to put the oil in the compressor and fill it up with freon.
$245 for serp and reman compressor
$180 for ac prep and freon
back on the road :cool2::drinkup:
