I need help, can anyone offer advised on a repair?
About every four months I start my generator if I haven't used it regular. Recently I started it and it would not idle the engine speed would surge up and down. Suspecting bad fuel I replace the fuel and clean the tank, new fuel filter. Carb has been removed disassembled and cleaned. New air cleaner was installed. All passages appear open. Problem continues. The plug in the bottom of the carb bowl has no adjustment screw. There is one adjustment screw and it is on the body. Moving it in or out has no effect. Engine will run the same with it completely removed. There is an idle stop screw also.

Coleman Generator 5000
Model HM100 159042P Tecumseh 10 HP pull start engine.
Very low hours has operated great until recently.
Have kept addtive in fuel tank during storage.

you will find a little screw on the carb with an arrow or mark on the carb body and an indentation on the screw. These need to be lined up exactly or you will have the engine running as you have described. This exact thing happened to me this last winter and a knowledgable friend told me of this. Give it a try. good luck, RT

It sure sounds like a partially blocked main jet/emulsion tube to me. Try removing the bowl again and blasting an airline down the main jet (hold onto the float carefully) Also check the float is sitting level. The easiest way to test this is by holding the carb upside down and visually checking it's level to the carb.
Good luck Phil

Thanks, Phil

Air is the one thing I haven't tried. I will soak the carb in a good carb cleaner again and use the air. I have a rebuild kit one order just in case I lose some parts with the air. It also runs better with the choke on and tries to stall and flood out when it is under a load. Has to be a fuel delivery problem. On a side note some of us are praying you will eventually be armed again.

Thanks,

i just had that problem and it was because there was water in my line. i took off that bottom bowl where the fuel line goes in and it was half water half fuel. my gas cap is missing its cover so it has a bowl in it and a micro hole that let in a bunch of water during a storm and i did not cover my trailer.

That's appreciated, if we ever get a Prime Minister with balls and doesn't want to be politically correct all the time then we might have a chance. In the mean time I'll keep practicing with my bb gun:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
