This engine is on a troybilt 33" mower, love the mower, but the engine seems to be factory goverened at 2800 or 3000 rpm. I want to increace it to 3600 rpm but don't have the foggiest idea HOW to adjust it. For several years I've just been using a piece of wire hooked to the governor linkage, works for running speed but when the blades are disengaged the engine races. Want to do it right but I don't see any way to adjust anything on it.

Engine model is: 2 5802 0223
Family - 2BSXS.3442VM
9.0 Hp. I/C

Could I first suggest you go to the B&S site and download the manual for this engine typing in the model and type number, printing it off for future ref' would be good.
Study the carb/linkage page and you should be able to work it out. Quite straight forward.

Good luck Phil :usflag:

I have the engine manual and have studied the linkages, several times, looking for a solution. Nothing presents itself that I can see. The manual dosen't give any advice either.

Just you luck, you aint got the easy one there:hammerhead:
One page 8 item 265 is the clamp, now depending on how the equipment manufacturers set it up there might be some adjustment here. Loosen the clamp and if there is a small bar that's been clamped you might be able to make some adjustment here. Failing that on item 222 you should see a throttle stop tab on the inside of this. Gently bend it away towards the rear of the engine and it should allow more top end throttle opening.
It's at times like this we could do with live web-cam links, we could talk each other through these things.

FYI

Model: 215802 = 21cub in engine
Type: 0223 E1 = engine variant
Code: 030121ZA = Manufactured on 2003 Jan 21st

Keep us updated,
Good luck Phil

Not sure if it is the same on your engine, on the 6.5 HP IC, the idle is adjusted by tensioning the little spring that pre-loads the governor linkage. More tension = higher RPM

Jason,

DO NOT loosen any screw on any clamp.......

There is a spring connected to the governor lever Ref. # 227, The other end connects to the throttle control assembly Ref. # 222.

On the throttle control assembly end of the spring bend this tang just a little to put more tension on the spring, This will increase high speed rpms.

PS, I HAD this procedure all outlined with pretty pictures saved but my computer blew up last Friday and took all my files with it....:cry::cry:

Good Luck

Problem SOLVED.

I'm am idiot, never got out a LIGHT and got real close and looked at all angles. Yep, there's the spring behind everything. Bent the tang it's hooked too up until I got 3600 rpm @ no load.

Sometimes it's the simplest things that get overlooked...

Thanks for the help everyone!

Restrorob,
my PM doesn't work, I just sent you a mail to your "other" e-mail address re the hard drive problem.

You helped me out so many times, perhaps I can help you with the drive crash.
