I thought you needed to be a lisenced Christmas Light installer to plug in timers
I found this in an old post. And it caught my eye... made me wander...
What all legally wise, such as licenses, insurance, etc etc, do you have to have before getting into this?

You need to talk to your insurance company about insurance. And you need to know the local laws and such as far as license.
Here, as long as we are just plugging stuff in, no license needed.

Some states require you to have a mechanical contractors license for jobs over 10,000, or 20,000 or whatever the state says. it wil also require you to be bonded for those jobs, and have workman's comp insurance if you have more than one employee. different states have different laws. most of my commercial clients require me to have 1-2 million in liability insurance and proof of Workman's comp.
