Potential customer-
"You dont use any of that toxic stuff to kill weeds do you?;)
My answer-"well anything can be toxic, if I eat 3 bottles of Asprin it would be toxic for me, but I can assure you that what I use is a synthetic auxin that forces the weed to speed up its cell elongation and growth till the cells rupture at the cellular level and the weed then dies" :usflag:

Sounds great when can you start:clapping:

Most of us would die before finishing the first bottle of aspirin. Whether you spend eternity in damnation is not for mortal men to know. LOL

I've always assumed you were, but not for this. My old boss would always tell people, "This stuff is so safe you could practically eat it." This was like 18 years ago, so we were applying diazinon, dursban, metasystox...all sorts of nasty things.
I tell people I use the safest products that will do the job. I frequently tell people that what I am applying isn't as toxic as Lysol, which most of what I apply isn't, if you go by the LD 50.
Sounds to me like you are being truthful. Your analogy is not only valid it answers the question in terms the customer can relate to as well as provide information on the technical aspect of how weed killer works. I don't believe that can send you to hell. One point I would also make is the customer needs to due their own due diligence in regard to whats being applied to their lawn. The LCO should provide ANY info they need. In Michigan to imply anything is " safe " or " non-toxic " would be considered a violation under our pesticide laws. It has always been my opinion that the toxic alarm bell is always sounded way to quickly as I believe the chemicals we use everyday pose little risk when applied properly.

I always tell them that many of the household products they keep under their sink are just as harmful, if not more, than what I apply.

Watch where you use the word SAFE. In New York State calling a pesticide SAFE is illegal & there are wackos that will try to catch us on tape.

My response is, "I use the safest stuff I can. I have to work with it all day long, and I don't plan to spend the last couple decades of my life in the Cancer Ward."

If something we handle causes cancer, I do not think you will need to worry about spending decades in a cancer ward. Try no more than a year. I am very careful about 2,4-D. Use a lot of that, but do not plan on finding out the EPA review missed something or covered up something.
The other day, a new client put me on the spot for what I was about to spray some hibiscus with. She was almost fired for making an issue. I pointed out that what is being sold in Hawaii for treatment of ornamentals is many degrees more hazardous than what I apply. Ortho Systemic Insect killer(fenbutatin oxide-Vendex) + (acephate-Orthene) is labeled Danger. No products I apply carry a danger label. BTW, Vendex WP is a federally restricted pesticide due to its extreme hazard to handlers and applicators. Can someone tell me how it is allowed in an OTC product for use by homeowners. The hibiscus was treated with Talus, Forbid miticide and Ultrafine oil. None of those pesticides are federal RUPs or labeled Danger.
The other thing that I point out to nervous people is what is permitted in residential areas has been screened for safety. All of the alleged toxic pesticides have been restricted to farm and nursery use only. I apply lots of dimethoate and Dursban, however only in ornamental nurseries. I will never apply malathion in a residential area either. That pesticide has been associated with too many incidents in Hawaii.

I tell peopel that they'd be shocked at what farmers and ranchers used on our food supply .
Being the visible one doing the applying , we are getting the negative attention

red dot means you are in invisible mode (that means there is no green dot next to your name while you are logged on i think) go to user cp and check your options

Almost forgot about that. I remember telling my relatives who were worried about the business I am in the same things. My explanation was that many pesticides used on fruits, vegetables and tobacco are so toxic, they are prohibited from use on turf or ornamentals. Not even allowed on nursery crops or cut flowers. Just for grins, look up Thiodan, Guthion or Temik. I know I could not apply those pesticides where human contact was possible and keep a clear conscience.

Per above, you need to segregate chemicals used on the commercial food supply (like food coated with who-knows-what from Mexico) to local grown food. Buy local.

For that matter, buy local/American everything! We could solve a whole lot of issues if we stopped gobbling up every cheap plastic piece of crap China sent over.
