I have a Velke x2 and I like it pretty well, but after watching the ProSlide video I wonder if that would suit me better.

Which would you rather have and why?

Velke x2 or Proslide XT

never used a proslide for any length of time,...only for a short while (about a half hour). I owned a two wheeled sulky though, that had plenty of foot room to move around on. Less resistance, softer ride,.... Let's put it this away...the invention of the wheel is wonderful thing.

We used to sell the Proslide and the bottom plate wears fairly quick and with that it would be wise to have an extra on hand.

What mower are you using? I ask the question because I learned that my 36" Exmark Viking was not enough machine to handle a ProSlide. The resistance was simply too much for the small machine, with a light front end to start. I couldn't control direction of travel.

I started with a one-wheeled Velke, but didn't like the stripe down the middle for good lawns. I got the ProSlide, but sold it soon thereafter. I bought a BullRider, two-wheeled sulky. My version is an older model, to be used in either caster, or trailer mode. I intended to use it in caster mode, but the same behavior was true as for the ProSlide. I had to revert to trailer mode. It has been used this way for years.

A pic of my machine + BullRider.

I would quite honestly say that the 2-wheeled sulky's are the way to go.

One wheelers are what I own and I love the mobility of them, they just leave that nasty line down the middle of your stripe that sad to say I have almost gotten used to, but hate with all my passion.

Proslide. Was thinking that I wanted one, but started thinking more. There good so you don't have to walk...but wait, what about CONCRETE/ASPAULT?...can't ride it on that..that would take a lot of time/energy up for my operation. But it leaves a mean stripe, well so does my eXmark.

Two wheelers ride right behind your drive tires so there is no extra line, great mobility, and you can ride them on CONCRETE.

I will be in need of at least 3 new 2-wheeled sulky's by the 09 season!

Never used a wheeled sulky. We use a Proslide XT w/ our JD 7H17 wb. We really like it. You can swing out over concrete to make a turn but, of course, the plate will wear faster. I usually avoid it. It makes a great stripe. To me, it would ride better over uneven ground than wheels. If we buy another sulky, I'm quite sure it will be a Proslide XT.

All great points and opinions. Thanks for sharing them.

I am using my Velke x2 with my Scag SW 36" mower that has a 16HP Kawasaki KAI V-Twin engine and it pulls my 180lb weight up and down hills with no problem at all. The Proslide may be too much for it though.

What appeals to me most about the ProSlide is the fact that I am at a more comfortable level with the controls. With my Velke x2 I am above the controls and have to bend over slightly but noticeably. If the area to be cut is small enough, I prefer to walk it, the mower feels that much better and controllable when at the walking level.

I also like the way it automatically folds when not needed, making tight areas a snap, not that pulling the pin and dropping the Velke is a big deal or anything, but it is one less thing to think about.

I wish there was a way I could try one out on my Scag to see if it could handle it before committing to purchasing one.

Any ideas how I could do that? Do that have demo models at retail locations?

Usually.
If the dealer wont install the hitch plate on your machine so you can demo it out for yourself, find a new dealer - that one just shot himself in the foot.

Excellent, I will try to find a dealer and try to test one out. :dancing:

Ask your dealer what THEY think. If they say it will work and it doesn't, return it and tell them they were wrong. If they say it will work and it does, great. If they say it won't work, then don't try it.

I HAVE a proslide on a 48 scag. However, I have the SWZU model and the deck is a good deal heavier than a SW I had a year ago.

My bet would be it would work, but the front will probably want to pull up on you. Just be careful. If you are planning on growing to a larger machine, wait and buy one then.
