Lawn Tractor Engine RPM

I have a Sears 14 HP lawn tractor. Anybody know about what rpm the engine is running at normal operating speed?

I can't figure out how to use my automotive tach to check this.

3200-3600 rpm at full speed, 1250-1300 rpm at idle.
