Been in Business for 5-6 yrs. currently cutting w/ 52 " 27 hp. kohler and am interested in moving up to a 60" Toro.... Prices quoted today were 60" 27 kohler is $7,000 and 60" 28 kawasaki is $7800.... These prices are the cheapest of the two closest dealers I spoke w/... My question is is it worth the $ to pay for the kawasaki??? I currently have the 27 kohler w/ app. 1100 hrs. and have been satisfied on the 52" but I realize that 8" cut could use more power.....Thanks for any input.....

Both my machines are 60" with 27 kohlers...No problems with either...1000 on 1, and 500 on the other

I personally like Kawasaki a little better. Kohler makes a great motor also and have been proven to be pretty reliable. Even though I prefer Kawasaki, I would not pass on a nice piece of equipment priced well with a Kohler. Briggs & Stratton is a different story. Have had nothing but bad luck with them and will probably never own anything with one on it again. Just my opinion. If I was in your situation I would go with the Kohler and save the $800.00 $800.00 would buy you a real nice blower and trimmer, or a new push mower.

Love my 28 kawi. Both are very good motors.

We have the 28 Kaw on a 52" and it really is almost overkill for just mowing. That said we have a 29 kaw DFI on the 60" and it seems like a perfect match. Our dealer sells 90% of the 60" with the 27 kohler and really no complaints so I think I would save the money. If you are going to run a DFS at some pont, you might think about the 28, otherwise save the money and buy some new hand helds, or a new 21" toro commercial mower. Some dealers have a Toro points program that will save you more money buying a 21" and the 60". Probably enough to pay for the 21".

I run exmark 60" kavi 28hp it runs great and seems that its little too much, but when you put ultravac+wet grass+uphill = you will feel the difference. Yes 27 is good and reliable but if you planning to put your ztr in real test-get 28 kavi, you will not regret it. Cons-it sucks gas 1.3-1.5 gal/hr

I have the 27 Kohler on a 60" Hustler. It is plenty of power and I cut a lot of hilly, uneven terrain. Neighbor runs a Dixie Chopper with the 27 and has 5000 hours....not expecting that many but wow!

Kawaski gets my vote!

I demoed a toro 60" with the 28 kawasaki and it was great. Quieter than the kohlers and plenty of power. I was even running the collection system on it and it had no problem running it and mowing at faster speeds.

I am saying this without looking at any of the specs. In my opinion, if you take 2 similar kawasaki and kohler motors. Both new and same HP. It seems like when you get a heavy load on them the Kawi wants to pull more and not bog down as much as the Kohlers. Kohlers are good, dependable, and strong motors though.
