View Full Version : Hustler blade/deck/cut question.

I'm always keeping my equipment in perfect working order, but:

The other day I noticed my 54" Hustler wasn't cutting smooth. Hardly noticable but something just didn't look quite right.

Took the deck off and noticed one spindle and blade was 1/8" off level with the other blades. Blades are straight and level (swapped them around and used spirit level to check straightness) but one didn't line up. I ended up putting a big washer between the spindle and blade to line them up.

Worked fine but I'd rather know why that spindle was a bit off. Deck is straight and I didn't see any adjustments that could be made to adjust spindle heights.

Anyone have any insight on this?

Mower deck gurus?

Thanks

Maybe one spindle housing is shorter than the others. The machinest could of had a Whoops when making it.

Or the bearing maker.

Check and make sure all the bolts are tight on the spindle. Including the one that holds the pulley on.

Yup, could be either. Think next time I decide to take my deck off I'll power wash it and check all the distances, deck straightness, etc.

It's one spindle which is 1/8 inch closer to the deck. Nothing is loose anywhere on my machines. (If I can help it. :lol)

I'll be interested to see what it is.

Just a thought but are the big washers above or below the blades? That would make almost 1/4" difference.
Obviously they should be below the blade.
