It's a CH26 78518 on a Lazer. First one. Does Kohler sell a replacement cylinder head that is completely assembled with new valvetrain, or only individual parts? Long story, but the head is basically trashed due to a broken valve cover bolt and failed attemps to remove it :hammerhead:

I have considered replacing the engine since it has 1800 hours on it anyway. But the price shocked me. I basically cannot put $3000 in to replacement CH26. It's just not worth it on a mower this old. I might possibly rebuilt it myself over the winter though.

One more question. When looking at parts, I saw "mini block" listed. What exactly is a mini block?

According to the ipl you have to buy the parts for the head separtly. A mini block is basically a crank case, piston and rods, no crank, cam, heads or sump.

That's what I figured on the head. I was hoping they sold them complete. I can almost see this turning into a parts availability nightmare if I tare this thing down now, and expect to get it back together in a big hurry. I can just imagine with my luck there will be one lone part that is on backorder.

Thanks for the info on the mini block.
