Hi rcorbett,
I noticed this is your first post. If you haven't resolved the problem, there are a lot of good gearheads on this forum that can help you.
Be sure to post what it is doing and what you have tried.
Good luck,

I have disconnected the connectors form the harness going up to the handle..seems to me that all the wiring up there has to do with secondary functions..blade clutch etc.
The 3 wire conneector mounted on the side of engine cover (regulator maybe) had disconnected and connected..no spark..but at one point (not sure when) I had screwdriver in plug wire, ranked it. and \felt a shock..not too strong..but cannot duplicate.
There are two wires that go under flywheel from to 3 wire plug (regulator??)
this mower is manual start..not electric
I MOW ALONE

coul be neuteral safety switch. try moving gear selector a few times through gears and back to neutural. also make sure the clutch is not on.

Hi,
I have been out of the biz for a long time, but it certainly seems to be the coil/electronic ignition.
I would take the flywheel cover off and remove any small wire that goes to the coil and then test it (with the cover off and the spark plug out). Be careful with the fingers around the flywheel.
If the small wire is off the coil and you do not have fire (or very weak fire), then you need a new electronic ignition/coil.
Good luck,

Oops! We had adapted a 1/2 extension so that it would fit in a drill. We would put the extension and correct socket on the drill and spin the motor with the spark plug removed.

Echoman,
i thought for sure the coil (ignition module) was the problem but new one also does not fire.I have the wire off the coil..spark plug in end of plug wire, grounding side of plug, cranking engine and no spark..tried plug on diff mower..have spark..so I know the plug is good..Magnets on flywhel have good strength...any suggestions??

Hi,
I am not familiar with the ignition setup on this engine, but with your attempts to get fire, I assume that it may have a seperate electronic ignition (also called ignitor and other names).
Hopefully, Kawasaki1, Restrorob, or some of the other great mechanics will jump in on this with some good solid advise on your specific engine.
If you click on "Restrorob", I think you will be able to send him a private message to his email. He should have good advise or know someone who does.
Good luck,
echoman

thanks..
i was getting no spark when i disconnected the grd wire from the coil..got new one.. no spark...
picked up a spark tester had great spark from new coil for about 6-8 rotations..then the spark diminishes to nothing...any suggestions?? i moved the coil contacts as close to the magnets as possible..
i have all the wiring from the engine to the handlebar disconnected..so all i am dealing with is the ignition..i cleaned the magnet area and the grounding area for the coil...I am feeling whooped..shouldn't be this complicated..
thanks for any ideas..

Russell,
Just basics here, Make sure the new coil is mounted with the plug wire lead facing down closest to the cylinder and the kill terminal up facing you.
Slide the coil all the way away from the flywheel and just snug the screws, Rotate the flywheel magnet around in front of the coil, Insert any business card (approx. 0.010" between the coil and flywheel. Loosen the two screws and let the magnet pull the coil to it, Tighten the screws then rotate the flywheel to remove the business card.
Now, With the kill wire disconnected you should have a nice crisp blue spark.
If you don't, Revert back to the coil test procedure I first posted to determine if you got a new faulty coil, It does happen....
Good Luck
