Dave,

I know this is not related but could you tell me what you did about the tendanitus?

Thanks,

Ed

There is another mower trimmer similar to the one from Peco. It's made by a company called 4M Inc. There are differences between the two trimmers and they are substantial.

Peco $400
4M $679 (commercial model)

Peco: The trimming head doesn't move in and out
4M : The trimming head swivels in and out and is controlled by a foot pedal

Peco: The trimming head uses a fixed length trimming line that must be replaced when it gets too short
4M : The trimming head uses a bump feed trimming head, you advance the line by bumping a rod on top of the trimmer

Peco: Very low unit making it easy to get underneath of fences, small ornamental trees and the like
4M : This unit is pretty high because of the bump feed rod

Peco: Unit folds up towards the operator when not in use
4M : Unit folds back towards the rear tire for storage

Both units are electrically powered

Both unit's trimmer heads articulate so you can edge with them

Both units are height adjustable

Peco: The trimming head can be replaced with any standard trimming head
4M : The trimming head is proprietary to 4M and replacements must be bought from them.

In case you're wondering, yes, I have checked both of them out in detail but I have never actually seen either one. 4M is a company that is new to me and the Peco unit is brand new and may not be available at your local dealer yet.

Looks like a great idea.

My only concern would be the operator looking down at the trimmer for a moment and losing sight of what they're mowing (maybe even having an accident) because of that. Who knows?

in a word, excercise. tendonitis happens when you overwork some muscles in a joint and not the others, and the joint becomes unbalanced. i tried the cortisone shots, and they did nothing for me. once i understood what was causing it i started excersing my forearms and i noticed some pain releif after only a few days! you didnt say where you have it but just start with some 5lb dumbells, and do curls, forward and reverse, twists, circles, anything you can think of that you can feel working that joint. it only takes 10 min. a day but it works! mine is totally gone and i was in terrible pain before.:blob3: dr dave my bill is in the mail:D

Thanks for the advice Dave (Tendanidus). It makes sense and sounds simple enough.

I saw them both in person at Louisville show this last year. Peco one didn't look all that great, but the 4M looked terrific. I didn't check out the specs, but the 4M seemed alot easier to use while mowing, you can change in/out with your foot, so you can mow straight, not all zigzag , getting your lawn's "professional" look all screwed.. I probably wouldn't use it all at the same time unless on a long straight such as fence or long building, i think i'd go through before mowing and trim around everthing first. Normally I string trim after mowing, so as not to waste time, going back for seconds on trimming, but with this, I would not want to drive all over the lawn after cutting it just to trim (would mess up the stripes and compress streaks of grass across the lawn)..
just my $0.02......
